straight to the point cooking recipes
Oh thank you! I am SO tired of scrolling past paragraphs and paragraphs of ads, rambling lead-up, and backstory to get to three lines of recipe.
Antennapod is my podcast program of choice, just a nice clean UI
Same. It's super clean and stable and compatible with paid/secured podcast links. Those funky rss links and stuff.
I have been hearing a lot of it here in Lemmy, I have been using Pocket Casts free version for so long, at this point I just want a Podcast app that has a queue list that survives account based (I mean if I wipe the app or reinstall it it will have the queue there in the exact second it was left) and the voice booster and silence trimming features, a quick look for that app doesn't seem to have it though, and those features are what kept me from some other popular options like Apple Podcast, Spotify and Overcast (I currently use Android).
I looked at this the other day and really liked it. Is there a way to import listening data across from pocket casts?
Not sure, but if pocket casts can export html or opml, then yes
It does, and it worked perfectly. Thanks

Great for when you're trying to schedule a meeting or show when you're available. It's even free and open source.
Did one of your annoying nerdy friends hide some weird unicode in a message they sent to you? Copy/paste into this site to see exactly what dickery they're up to:
https://babelstone.co.uk/Unicode/whatisit.html
I say this because I'm that annoying friend that likes to slip a unicode right-to-left character in just to see what happens.
Can you give an example of the kind of dickery one might get up to by hiding Unicode in a message? I’m not sure I understand what this is for
You can reverse the way characters display with this unicode character. U+202E. Example. You can use this to make users think that a file has a different exnetion that it really has. Example: image.gnp.exe This example actually has the extension.exe so it is a executable but looks like it is a PNG.
Also, at an old workplace I put that in my username in our chat app and it completely screwed up the UI for people that were using terminal apps for chat as soon as my username appeared and I had to take it out.
You can also do things like use confusable characters to point someone at the wrong domain like pаypal.com.
Pretty cool story. Thanks for the site looks interesting.
Joplin and Obsidian.md
Joplin is open source note taking to the bone and obsidian is still open but with some paid favors in the mix. Both have mobile and desktop clients for just about everything except a literal toaster.
Edit: lmao I am a kumquat, obsidian isn't actually open source except for the plugins. So keep that in mind if you plan to use it.
I will also throw in syncthing. Open source, syncs files between devices it's pretty freaking neato. Definitely a 10 out of 10 project for me.
Isn't obsidian closed source? I see that only their core plugins are open source.
Oh shit you right lemme edit that.
Obsidian is sick. Its best if you know markdown (which is easy to learn). Instead of paying for Obsidian sync, I just use nextcloud to sync my obsidian vault across multiple devices.
Do you use them both? If so, what purpose does each serve for you?
I primarily use Obsidian but both use markdown.

For reading manga: Kotatsu
It's free and open source. Has a great UI and you have great features like downloading manga and it rememberimg where you left of.
Tachiyomi is also fantastic for this, it's often touted as being the 'best' Android manga reader
Tachiyomi is so good, I developed manga addiction and have 30 mangas in my recommendation folder alone
I think I would've stopped reading manga if Tachiyomi hadn't made it so easy ☺️
Just started Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead and absolutely loving it so far. Any recommendations?
Oshi no ko. Mushoku tensei. I grow stronger by eating. Solo leveling.
Kotatsu oh this is a sick one, I've been using bato.to
Just about any mobile restaurant app is worth downloading in my experience. Ordering ahead often lets you skip lines. And most apps these days have some sort of rewards programs. Even if I'm going to a place once, I usually download the app just to see what it offers.
I fucking hate apps!
Just make a proper web app, then everyone can use it..
Only issue is they want a ton of information for those apps generally
I agree, I've saved a lot of money/time this way but, I don't expect this to be a popular take here haha
Printfriendly. Edit any website down to the parts you want to save and convert them to PDF. I use it for trimming the cook's life story out of recipes I want to save.
There is also "just the recipe" but it has gotten a bit.. less good.
And of course they have an app now.
I use this a lot to fish out knitting recipes for my gran after she finds them on Pinterest. Hate Pinterest with a passion, though.
I suggest Archive.ph over 12ft ladder these days.
On my android phone, I have clipeus for when I want to completely clear my clipboard (don't know if it actually clears everything or just the most recent item, though) and greentooth for when I am forced to use bluetooth. Greentooth turns off the bluetooth setting after a set amount of time after your connected bluetooth device is disconnected so you don't have to.
Both apps were last updated on F-Droid 1 and 2 years ago respectively, so I cannot guarantee there aren't any issues that make them safe compared to newer alternatives, but they work great for me.
