They're probably not doing it just because, my guess is that it's to appeal to the fasci- I mean- conservative government heading the US right now. And yes, I am aware that they are probably going to restrict more stuff as time goes on if they're unimpeded. I'm just looking for a solid motive

It's all in in black and white in Project 2025.

Ban porn > Categorize LGBT as Porn > LGBT is crime > LGBT in prison

Religious zealots and bigots were given the reigns. This is what we get.

Regarding payment processing specifically, they are under direct pressure from religious lobbyists and are folding like a cheap suit.

A certain section of society watched The Handmaid's Tale (they wouldn't read it because books are bad) and thought: "yes please, let's have some of that thank you very much" this is the thin end of the wedge.

[-] FreedomAdvocate@lemmy.net.au 0 points 1 week ago

Which section is that, the one that wants to take away women’s rights by letting males into their spaces, and who constantly award women of the year awards and women’s representative spots to males?

[-] Denjin@feddit.uk 1 points 1 week ago

So you'd actually be OK with a christofascist dictatorship as long as people you don't like get oppressed as well? Cool.

[-] uhdeuidheuidhed@thelemmy.club 0 points 1 week ago

Do they specifically mention how banning porn is a step towards attacking queer people?

[-] blackbelt352@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Red states have already passed legislation classify any book that has any form ofnLGBT representation as obscene and not fit for school libraries. It's the same process on a bigger scale.

If you read Project 2025 you would find that literally on Page 1 they equate pornography with "the spread of transgenderism and drag queens" and claim that all of the above are "invading their school libraries" so all further references to combating "pornography" in the text also means transgender people.

You can read it for yourself here and I strongly advise you to do so to stay informed. The enemy has laid bare every single one of their tactics and remaining ignorant to it is irresponsible.

You’re intentionally misrepresenting what it says, what a surprise.

That sentence is in reference to the “pornographic” transgender-advocate book in schools that have extremely graphic pictures and descriptions about things like “sucking girl dick” and so on. It’s not equating pornography with transgenderism at all.

Trying to see what they can get away with. Can I control other things too? I was allowd to dictate how people spend their money here, so why not there?

Soon porn and masturbation will be crimes.

Punishable by life sentences to slavery.

Visa and Mastercard have been pushing against legal but morally questionable stuff for the last 15 or so years to my knowledge.

It will continue regardless of which administration is in power.

This has been happening quietly for a long time. It exploded now because it crept into new segments like Steam. That is mostly driven by a few conservative groups applying pressure to credit card processors.

You won't find porn sites with certain content; in particular, blood or scat play. Now, neither one is to my personal liking, but I don't think it should be blocked as long as everyone involved consents. You might find amateur videos of it, but never anything from a professional studio. That is quite simply because credit card processors forbid it.

(My source is one of the interviews that Kink.com does before a scene, which they always leave in the edit they post to their pay site. I'd have to search a lot to find the specific one. Suffice it to say that one of the models mentioned "no scat" as a hard limit, and the director said that their payment processor wouldn't allow it, anyway.)

It's also impossible to remake the old Taboo series as is. Faux-incest scenes go out of their way to mention they're all a step family (seriously, how many step children does Cory Chase have? This doesn't seem physically possible.) This is all credit card industry pressure, as well, and while I wish the genre wasn't as prevalent as it is, the setup dialog gets really silly and contorted because of this restriction.

I hope out of principle: Porn should be freely accessible where laws permit access to porn.

They can't make money if they are not processing payments, and It's very VERY unlike the financial sector not to take money from others anyway they can. So there must be some reason they make more money* excluding porn than including it.

* Not per se as a company, more likely as individuals running such a company.

I feel like one huge thing that’s been missed in here in all this outrage is that it wasn’t just “porn games” that were removed from sale - they were, from what I saw, extreme and sick ones like “rape simulators”, “incest simulators”, and pedophile sex games, where you seduce and rape young children……..

As someone against censorship in all forms I disagree with what they’ve done, but as a rational person….. if there was ever something that should be censored (or made illegal more like it), it’s probably this.

[-] FreedomAdvocate@lemmy.net.au -1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

If you’ve actually been paying attention you’d see that basically the only government in the world that is NOT taking part in all this censorship and mass surveillance is the very government you’re blaming for this.

If anything, the only hope to stop these payment processors from going even more authoritarian is the current US government. Currently all of the “progressive” and “liberal” governments worldwide are all aboard the censorship and control train. The US is the outlier.

I’m against censorship in all forms, but geez the games that have been removed….. their creators and the people that buy and enjoy those games are 99.9% sure to be rock spiders. If a game breaks the law then ban it and prosecute, but if not then leave them alone no matter how deprave and sick they are.

[-] Killer@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Isn't the US currently discussing having age verification?

[-] javiwhite@feddit.uk 0 points 1 week ago

The US (more specifically Project 2025) is a huge driving force in this, they're just domestically focused on the "make America white again" stage of their plans to return to a nuclear family, but that won't stop them using their lobbying powers, or control over tech monopolies to strongarm other countries into submission.

Project 2025 - porn ban.

Project 2025 wants to bring back nuclear families. .

Project 2025 proposes a comprehensive ban on pornography.

[-] FreedomAdvocate@lemmy.net.au -1 points 1 week ago

Project 2025 hasn’t got anything to do with anything happening in America. The longer you guys try to pretend it is, the less support the democrats are going to have.

[-] javiwhite@feddit.uk 0 points 1 week ago

why do you think I give a shit if the democrats have support? I can point to fascism from the current gov without supporting the limp dicked opposition. Stop treating politics like a sports event, it's embarrassing.

[-] FreedomAdvocate@lemmy.net.au -1 points 1 week ago

Because it’s a 2 party race lol.
