Remove cabinet doors and have open shelves.

Can't leave doors open if there are no doors.

If you have money, slow self-closing doors.

counterpoint: mom would kill me

Apartment rules forbid that. Unless you own your own home..

Apartment don't care about what they don't know... so long as you put them back up before the lease is over. I kept mine in the utility closet.

We still await surprise inspections..

Those are (rightfully) illegal where I live. 48 hour notice, minimum.

Counterpoint: cats.

I had to install cabinets in my open-shelf pantry because the cats kept making beds of my packages foods. They would probably love to curl up on my dinner plates.

Another counterpoint is that some ADHD people, including myself, are not great on vacuuming and dusting. And that's on hard mode with open shelves. Need to pretty often clear them, dust the shelf, clean what was on it, put back.

I don't remember until my roommate does it, then I walk in and bust my head on the corner of one.

And then I remember, fuck it wasn't my roommate, I left it open myself 🤦‍♂️

I live alone and do this occasionally when I get distracted in the middle of a task like unloading the dishwasher. Otherwise it really doesn’t happen that much.

I actually don’t mind it because it’s a visual indicator that my task is incomplete, and a good reminder to finish it.

When my wife and I first got together, she warned me that she has a tendency to absentmindedly leave cabinets open. I started to pay more attention, and it turns out I do the same thing and have always just passively closed any that I noticed were open.

Better than realizing that the cabinet was open by standing up into the outer corner of the door.
