Not adhd but I moved twice a year until high school and never had friends. I used to hate recess and lunch as I was always alone. I used to walk around the perimeter of the playground counting my steps to see what the average steps around playground was per school. I had a notebook with all that info that I found and threw away in my late 30s.

I don't really get this meme mean because nothing about ADHD makes you unlikable or unpopular.

Speaking too much.

Hyperfocus on people.

Story of my life.

I was seen as weird so it resonated with me. But I’m not sure if that was the ADHD, poverty, or trauma.

[-] KuroiKaze@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago

Haha do we always have all three? Seems like maybe yes

"I just hyperfocused my way through another Star Wars EU novel over the weekend and I have a list of 37 reasons Like Skywalker is awesome I have to share with you guys!"

"Why don't you go share your tongue with the pencil sharpener, nerd!"

[Whole class laughs at me].

[Sensitivity to justice engages and I spend the rest of the day fantasizing about murdering the kid who said that and trying to not be seen crying]

-basically how all of elementary school went for me

Idk, the fact that I grew up in a rural area and vocally didn't give a shit about hunting or football probably didn't do me any favors.

NO WAY, fantasizing about murdering the other kids is ADHD too?! A girl in 5th grade once shared a private conversation we had over skype to the whole class (wasn't even anything wild, she asked me what I thought of a guy and I was like "he's ok", but it's the principle of not sharing private stuff that got me) and I have wished for her death for at least a decade afterwards. Which, thinking back, was probably kind of an overreaction.

The entire class? That's really harsh, sorry that happened to you.

I was definitely seen as an annoying kid because of my undiagnosed adhd

[-] KuroiKaze@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

I feel like almost all kids are seen as annoying at different times, I sure as hell can find them annoying right now.

[-] Comrade_Spood@quokk.au 5 points 1 day ago

Its different I think when it is your peers that find you annoying. And especially when what they find annoying are traits often associated with neurodivergence. For example I definitely exhibited conflict seeking behavior, I interrupted people a lot, I talked too much, had trouble paying attention to people when they are talking to me, and had trouble staying on topic. I also had a lot of trouble telling when I was bothering people, and thus did not stop when I should've.

Do you have to have ADHD to be annoying? No. Are you inherently annoying if you have ADHD? Also no. But ADHD makes it a lot harder to not come off as annoying to people, and I definitely struggled to not be annoying because of my neurodivergence.

It depends on which symptoms you have and how strong or intense they are. My wife and I didn't have excessive symptoms when we were younger, so didn't really have too many problems making friends, while our kid has more issues with staying on topic and interrupting because of the need to get a thought out straight away. They've still got friends, but find it harder to make long term friends.

That’s so relatable, though the schools I’ve been to didn’t have swings so I settled for just sitting in random patches of grass or just playing with my own imagination if the mood hit some days.

[-] Junkers_Klunker@feddit.dk 11 points 2 days ago

I spent most breaks at the library, but that was before adhd overpowered the ‘tism.

[-] Natanox@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 1 day ago

Unrealistic. He isn't beaten or otherwise abused.

[-] FuyuhikoDate@feddit.org 1 points 4 hours ago

Or beaten the shit out of anybody because he was told "just to ignore them"

[-] RedSnt@feddit.dk 3 points 2 days ago

The schools I went to didn't force us to go outside, so I'd often just sit and draw or make origami. You know, maybe I did reach a thousand paper cranes over the years.. As far as I know, it didn't cure me of anything though.
