Is anyone surprised they did this? They have done it before...
I'm more surprised that a ceasefire was agreed on in the first place at this point TBH.
Israel only agrees to ceasefires when they think it will be useful to recover prisoners and so get domestic opposition off their backs, to extract one-sided concessions from Hamas before proceeding with killing them, or to buy time to plan the next attack. Israel wants to finish the genocide and doesn't care about ceasefires.

There is currently a temporary ceasefire deal for captive exchange in Gaza with Israel. Which will last 72 hours for now.
That said, Israel also has a ceasefire agreement with Lebanon which we can see they are not holding up.
Ah okay, so not really anything other than their word then... I was kinda hoping there was more to it, but I guess we can hope this ceasefire lasts.
Indeed. But all we have to go on is Trump assuring Hamas that Israel will accept a permanent ceasefire in exchange after the captive exchange. However both Israel and Trump do not have a very strong track record in keeping their promises so people are rather pessimistic about this only being a temporary genocide pause.
