No one was injured, but someone fell into a nuclear reactor during maintenance.

"On 10/21/2025 at 0930 EDT an individual fell into the reactor cavity. The reactor cavity is full of water. They ingested some amount of cavity water. The individual was decontaminated by radiation protection personnel but had 300 counts per minute detected in their hair. At 1632 EDT they were sent off site to seek medical attention

Didn't even get to go home early sadness

I adore aspire to be so locked in that I ignore my radiation poisoning problem as long as possible

That's into the cooling pool right? It says they ingested some water, I hope they're okay.

That's into the cooling pool right?

It was the reactor core, but it was shut down for refueling and maintenance at the time. All we know about radiation damage is that their hair was giving off 300 clicks per second (which is an instrument-dependent measurement that can range from "standing in the banana isle" to "take an iodine tablet and get a cancer screening twice a year"), which is probably solvable by shaving off the irradiated hair. Reactors put a lot of effort into making the water at the surface as minimally radioactive as possible (to the point where they are sometimes less radioactive than most water) for measurement purposes. They're probably fine.

As long as they stayed on the surface, they should be okay. It's pretty insane how effective pools are at stopping radiation.

IIRC, you can tread water in a reactor pool for a while before having a bad time. And since the radioactive stuff is all denser than water, the dangerous particles sink so minimal exposure to danger on the ingestion front.
