Per the modlog, deploying their excellent rhetorical tactic of “I wish I could beat other users to death with a tire iron”

[-] oscardejarjayes@hexbear.net 28 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

They were very aggressive, and wouldn't back down, basically. They did threaten actionable violence against specific named people, a la tire iron, a number of times, and the last one was really the last straw.

And in particular there was a lot of aggression targeted towards our own users, and towards other socialist public figures. The wrong kind of aggression, at the wrong target.

Tbh "when you visited Seattle I was considering picking you up just to prove that no one here would care enough to ransom you" is a WAY more actionable threat than "I'd like to beat you with a tire iron".

Who hasn't been casually threatened online with violence? Talking about beating the shit out of someone is so commonplace it's almost cliché. And I say that as a victim of that kind of violence.

[-] oscardejarjayes@hexbear.net 2 points 1 month ago

I mean, it can't really be actionable if the Seattle visit was forever ago, right? Maybe it deserves removal, but Nak's ban was in large part because they kept doing it, when Nakoichi should've long toned it down.

And I think we'd generally prefer to not have a community where users regularly threaten violence towards each other, it doesn't really feel like the atmosphere Hexbear's meant to have, even if it's not generally unusual.

The constant aggression, threats of violence, crash outs, telling another user to kill themselves, fondness for tire irons, the list goes on

Also refusal to ever learn

[-] glimmer_twin@hexbear.net 25 points 1 month ago

I dunno but I saw them being an asshole to people all the time, could be that

Threats of violence

[-] FourteenEyes@hexbear.net 15 points 1 month ago

Forgot to specify "in Minecraft" minecraft

[-] Mindfury@hexbear.net 15 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

yeah i've been pretty busy so i was thinking of asking the same

I knew Nako would get fired up sometimes and was personally more on the "your anger is a gift" side of things, but now that I'm hearing that they wanted to beat other hexbears with a tire iron - yeah i get it

suicide baiting too? come on man. a damn shame

remember to log off sometimes

[-] purpleworm@hexbear.net 13 points 1 month ago

I don't think it was the proximate reason, but suicide baiting a user definitely didn't help

looks like he was threatening violence during struggle session on analysis.

from my very brief immediate surface inspection - it seem they interpreted that the understanding that AIPAC has influence in american politics must conclude that we exist under a "Zionist occupied government" and became very upset, then using phrases implying the beating of other users with a tire iron

that saying aipac has influence in american politics is on par with pushing that ridiciously ZOG theory.

i am not fully confident is putting out my thoughts but i thought this substack does a pretty good job explaining it

[-] abc@hexbear.net 14 points 1 month ago

looks like a struggle session on analysis.

no it was definitely because they were threatening to beat people with a tire iron lmao

[-] Clippy@hexbear.net 4 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

oh sorry right i am wrong, don't know why i worded it that way - i had the sentence in my head but forgot to type it

[-] KurtVonnegut@hexbear.net 8 points 1 month ago

FWIW, Nakoichi apologized on an Alt account, took responsibility, and expressed the desire to touch grass, because online was becoming too important.

[-] Horse@lemmygrad.ml 36 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

wasn't that someone impersonating them?

edit: it was

[-] KurtVonnegut@hexbear.net 11 points 1 month ago

oops, my bad.

[-] glimmer_twin@hexbear.net 10 points 1 month ago

A happy ending for all involved tbh. I have also had some periods being way too angry online. It feels good to unplug lol.

[-] Aradino@hexbear.net 32 points 1 month ago

That was someone impersonating them.

[-] Lussy@hexbear.net 13 points 1 month ago

That’s wild lmao

[-] PowerLurker@hexbear.net 13 points 1 month ago

feel like we should finally close c/fakenews after that, it's super obvious who it was...

[-] anotherspinelessdem@lemmy.ml 9 points 1 month ago

Hexbear lore is complicated

[-] PowerLurker@hexbear.net 8 points 1 month ago

yeah i wouldn’t trouble yourself with it lol. it’s in its “warring cliques that all suck” internet forum arc.

[-] Vingst@hexbear.net 3 points 1 month ago

Nakoichi, if you read this, your public declarations of binge drinking in the blorp chat had me concerned. I know life has been rough and we cope how we can, but consider how that's affecting you and others around you. Consider taking a break and, like, find some healthier way, idk. Wish you the best.

[-] infuziSporg@hexbear.net 2 points 1 month ago

On one level it was him allowing himself to be baited into getting aggro on people.

On another level it was people with a personal vendetta against him looking for just the right offense to jump on.

Debating the semantics over the symbiotic/mutualistic nature of the American state and the Israeli state should never have been a struggle session.
Debating whether to have isntrael instead of just idf-cool should not have blown up as much either.
