Hey yall! I suppose I’m slowly getting back to federated platforms and soon off of reddit. Is there anything I need to know before browsing thru piefed? I heard Lemmy has had some past controversies and i made a post via my lemmy.blahaj.zone account where the comments section got heated, so i decided to show up here on piefed.social. Not yet ready to instance hop yet as I heard some of these developments have been new. So catch me up, how does Piefed feel?

The devs stance on some political stuff is a problem to some people.

[-] Valmond@lemmy.world 19 points 1 month ago

They're pro kremlin/soviet communism sort of people or something along those lines.

I want to donate money to lemmy but the creators really do bother me. It's made it very difficult to separate the artist from the art.

Knowing people who were directly impacted by Soviet Russia and had family members disappear, makes it incredibly difficult - if not impossible - for me to knowingly give me money to supporters of that regime and its ideologies. I also had Ukrainian friends that moved back or stayed in Ukraine and disappeared. Imagining my donated money going to people who might then donate it to the Russian cause or spread Russian propaganda just... my friends could be dead and they support that?

Shit, now I don't feel so good. Hopefully my friends are still alive.

Donate money to your instance then

And/or the app you're using, if you do so.

Unfortunately, voyager only supports donations through Microsoft - that's a no-go. If they allowed donations through liberapay or opencollective, definitely.

Oh hey! That's good to know! It's not mentioned on F-Droid, so I never knew about it!

[-] Blaze@piefed.zip 3 points 1 month ago

Hello @aeharding@vger.social , FYI

[-] atro_city@fedia.io 2 points 1 month ago

Already doing that :) (not this particular instance but one of the others)

Support for russian genocidal imperialism shouldn't be an issue?

[-] wjs018@piefed.social 11 points 1 month ago

Wow...I just peeked into the previous thread and that got messy...

Welcome to piefed.social! I hope you enjoy your time here. I might be an admin for piefed.social and contributed code to the project, but I still have a lemmy account that I use regularly. The two projects both swim in the same ocean.

Feel free to reach out or post in the help or meta communities if you run into issues.

Feels great to me. How's it feeling for you?

[-] SidTheShuckle@piefed.social 6 points 1 month ago

Just starting so idk

Since piefeed and Lemmy both use the ActivityPub protocol, the content is the same. It comes down to what your instance does in terms of federation (same as Lemmy) just with a different set of features. Chances are you don’t even know who is on Lemmy vs PieFeed unless they call it out or you go digging for it.

Definitely check out feeds and notifications ( that little bell). Absolute game changers

Wild previous thread but I'm glad you're happy with your choice!

mobile apps aren't up to date with the API, but they work well enough so I main this account now. It can be a bit rough on the sides too but that's to be expected, it only started accelerating development half a year or so and it's made stunning progress.

I'm happy to be here and I'm pretty optimistic about the software's future

I'm reading this post on Lemmy. Nice try.

Welcome!

Can you imagine, years ago how the internet was before? We know Facebook, Twitter, Tiktok, Youtube. We knew blogger, Tumblr, Skyrock... and long before, it was the forum era as phpBB..and mail-lists.

And now with ActivityPub, we are reshaping the web, and achieving much more with lots of freedom. So thank you all, and welcome 🀟😁
