Modern day piracy. US forces doing it is just a modernized letter of marque for a government backed privateer.

China should clamp down harder on the rare minerals markets because they have "dual military and civilian uses".

BRICS countries may have to consider using World War II style naval convoys, guarded with destroyers, to protect these merchant vessels from Western imperialist pirates.

Piracy is only cool when the pirates are the under dogs.

Since the US does understand they can't win a hot war with China, it seems like this might be where they are headed, just engaging in piracy and robbery around the globe (even more than they do already) and relying on the fact the other countries won't be willing to start a huge war that will kill millions over it.

Eh, I think they still want to do a hot war with China, but also understand that it would be bad optics at home if they were the ones that "fired the first shot" so to speak. So I think that if a war between the US and China breaks out, it will be China "firing the first shot", followed by the US slinging nukes at China.

They want to, but they realise that they can't win, so at the moment they'll be looking for ways to weaken China and pull ahead militarily so they can have their war that will probably kill over a billion people worldwide.

Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.

All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body.

If you are citing a Twitter post as news, please include not just the twitter.com URL but also Xcancel.com (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance, such as Libredirect or archive them as you would any other reactionary source (archive.today, web.archive.org, ghostarchive.org). Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed.

Mass-tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken Markov chain bot will result in a comm ban.

Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.

Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned.

Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society.
