Democrats on the House Oversight Committee released a batch of 68 photos obtained from the estate of Jeffrey Epstein on Thursday, one day before the deadline for the Trump administration to release a much larger group of Epstein files.

The photos come from a trove of 95,000 images the committee received last week, the Democrats said. The release includes images of lines from the novel "Lolita" written on a person's body; various travel documents; a screenshot of text messages about an 18-year-old from Russia and more. The photos can be accessed here.

The Democrats released several dozen photos last week, showing various high-profile figures including President Trump, former President Bill Clinton, Woody Allen, Gates and others. Neither batch of photos implicates any of those pictured in Epstein's crimes.

oh look David Blaine does magic for rapist pedophiles.

[-] zbyte64@awful.systems 11 points 5 months ago

What is it with magicians and Epstein, there's also David Copperfield

[-] halcyoncmdr@lemmy.world 29 points 5 months ago

It is important to remember that simply being in a photo with Epstein isn't evidence they were a part of what was happening or knew about it. Being at the same generic rich person party as Epstein isn't damning by itself.

Epstein traveled in elite circles and obviously wanted to flaunt that access as much as possible. He was everywhere the money was, he worked in Finance for decades.

Likewise, almost surely not all visits to his Island were related to his sexual trafficking business.

Context is important, and that's why actual investigations into all of these connections are important as well.

I can think of very few names already connected, pictured with or involved with Epstein whom I will feel any loss if they happen to suffer in the court of public opinion.

The very worst people in the world are going to leverage the fact that not everyone named or implicated was actually doing anything with minors or hurting anyone, and I've lost whatever fuck I had to give a long time ago. Everyone who went there is a rich asshole in some way and this is consequence.

And yeah, I am including the fucking scientists as well. Fuck Kraus, fuck Hawking's memory. I am so done with the world being divided into classes of people who can get whatever they want, and people who die from preventable illnesses because they can't afford health insurance.

I wish my anger was as contagious as it is on the right, we would already be marching together to physically remove this fetid, evil administration.

James Randi is still clean. Still my hero.

The girl's hands in the picture with Bill Gates gives me the worst feeling, they look anxious, I don't know why, they just do.

[-] possumparty@lemmy.blahaj.zone 16 points 5 months ago

it's the tense closed body language, it looks very much like an "i do not fucking want to be here or near this person, i am trying to cover my private areas inconspicuously, do not fucking touch me"

[-] vivalapivo@lemmy.today 4 points 5 months ago

As a male, I don't understand how can you fuck a person who doesn't want it, who feels uncomfortable around you, let alone is underage.

[-] NatakuNox@lemmy.world 2 points 5 months ago

Rape is rearly about sexual gratification. We know the pm from Israel gets off on rape. This is another reason why I oppose un-needed wealth. After a point they almost without fail become monsters.

it explains why he switched to reinventing his image with "philantrophy" decades ago, and how some of it has been disengenious.

[-] boonhet@sopuli.xyz 13 points 5 months ago

Imagine if Trump, Clinton, Gates and all the other high profile people implicated in this actually got arrested. It wouldn't just change the nation, probably change the world given who all had dealings with Epstein.

[-] masterofn001@lemmy.ca 11 points 5 months ago

The girl in that pic is not at all, in any way, comfortable.

[-] massive_bereavement@fedia.io 8 points 5 months ago

Yeah even my autistic ass can tell this is close to a hostage situation.

For reference,

[-] Ensign_Crab@lemmy.world 2 points 5 months ago

Yeah, they said that in the antitrust trial in the 90s. It was horseshit then and it's horseshit now.

Billionaires never see justice for the same reason no one has ever seen the easter bunny. Justice doesn't exist. Just a legal system designed to punish the poor and minorities.

What does the foot say?

Edit:

The release includes images of lines from the novel "Lolita" written on a person's body.

Great.

[-] leftzero@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 5 months ago

Seems to be the beginning of the second paragraph of the book..:

She was Lo, plain Lo, in the morning, standing four feet ten in one sock.

Which in the book continues with..;

She was Lola in slacks. She was Dolly at school. She was Dolores on the dotted line. But in my arms she was always Lolita.

[-] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 5 months ago

That novel is so beautifully written that I wish it was about something completely different so I don't feel dirty while reading it.

English wasn't even Nabokov's first language! That's insane!

The line immediately preceding this one is beautiful:

Lolita, light of my life, fire of my loins. My sin, my soul. Lo-lee-ta: the tip of the tongue taking a trip of three steps down the palate to tap, at three, on the teeth. Lo. Lee. Ta.

[-] Jax@sh.itjust.works 2 points 5 months ago

I appreciate others ability to remain impartial on any given topic.

That being said, the context of pedophilia definitely makes this disgusting.

[-] Paranoidfactoid@lemmy.world 1 points 5 months ago

Which suggests Epstein never actually read the novel to completion.

[-] Lucky_Acid@lemmy.world 1 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

Apparently the POS even had an annotated version and still didn't understand the book!

Edit: The annotated version, the one that he had, is very informative.

[-] Paranoidfactoid@lemmy.world 1 points 5 months ago

I've read the novel. Humbert is a pathetic old man who destroys Lolita's life for a fling on the road. The girl goes from a charmed upper middle class life before the family meets Humbert to the death of her mother, debasement and abuse at the hands of Humbert, and finally poverty, poor education, and bearing children out of wedlock. Lolita's life is ruined in the aftermath, much like Epstein's real victims. Nabokov did not write a sympathetic treatment of child abuse in Lolita, nor is Humbert a hero in the story.

Chomsky said that, at the time of his meetings with Epstein, "what was known about Jeffrey Epstein was that he had been convicted of a crime and had served his sentence. According to U.S. laws and norms, that yields a clean slate."

that kinda says all it needs to right there

[-] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 5 months ago

Yeah, "his sentence". If you can even call it that.

Anyone have any idea what all those formulas on the blackboard are all about?

[-] gnutrino@programming.dev 18 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

Top one looks like it's from an intermediate level quantum mechanics lecture. Less sure about the bottom one as it's generally less legible but it looks like it's dealing with probability density functions of some kind to me.

[-] vivalapivo@lemmy.today 3 points 5 months ago

The top looks like an explanation of the Higgs mechanism, the bottom has very low quality.

Should probably run the faces via pimeyes and find the papers by these clowns
