For my cousin, it was having a stroke. His wife says he was completely non-political before the stroke and then went full maga afterwards.
That tracks with the general understanding maga folks are just not smart. Brain damage, low iq, it's all the same when it comes to making bad choices and being destructive.
Similar thing happened with John Fetterman IIRC
Brain trauma of any kind can do it. And even just as a side effect of getting hurt otherwise and becoming angry at the world because of it, lots of people go to the right that way.
