Honestly this is a great way to figure out the next round of layoffs.

For touch types change J and H.

I admit, I do use the little nubbins occasionally.

[-] Cenzorrll@lemmy.world 12 points 1 week ago

J-k would get me. J-h puts my hands too close and I'll notice. There's enough space to the right that I'll happily be super confused when I start tu[]omg ;ole tjos

You neam you mean innume

[-] tempest@lemmy.ca 16 points 1 week ago

They don't have to be.

My roommate once got a keyboard with all blank key caps.

In order to punish his hubris I remapped m and n in the windows registry when he left his computer unlocked.

Good times.

[-] Ininewcrow@piefed.ca 7 points 1 week ago

Always loved the description for people who use the keyboard and still visually look for the keys ....

SEARCH AND DESTROY

The key is to not only do this, but also compile this quick autohotkey script to an exe, hide it on their computer, and set it to run at startup:

#NoTrayIcon

m::n
n::m

That way it’ll fuck with touch typers. And when they look down to confirm that something’s wrong, it won’t look wrong. It’ll drive them nuts!

[-] ExcessShiv@lemmy.dbzer0.com 27 points 1 week ago

What kind of clown company allows random employees to just compile random scripts and alter startup behavior of computers...and also, what kind of moron employee leaves their computer unattended and unlocked.

[-] village604@adultswim.fan 18 points 1 week ago

You'd be shocked to see what's allowed on many college campuses because no one wants to hear faculty bitch endlessly about it.

[-] smeenz@lemmy.nz 4 points 1 week ago

The Dean needs to be able to run a random open-source 16-bit app from 1997 that hasn't been updated since it was released.

[-] village604@adultswim.fan 2 points 6 days ago

Nah, these days it's sketchy AI pdf editors (even though everyone has access to the full Adobe suite).

[-] Landless2029@lemmy.world 18 points 1 week ago

Set it to startup only on April 1st

[-] SaharaMaleikuhm@feddit.org 40 points 1 week ago

I would never ever notice that.

[-] lobut@lemmy.ca 28 points 1 week ago

My manager once swapped my coworker's keyboard to say "FUMICHAL" or something like that on the keyboard.

It was many weeks before my manager had to point it out to him that he did that. Since my coworker was a touch typer he just never noticed. I think my boss thought that since he was Polish that maybe he'd look down once in a while, but nope.

I don't think he ever changed it back because he just never thought it was worthwhile to do so.

[-] Ininewcrow@piefed.ca 16 points 1 week ago

The only keys I would ever notice being moved are 'F' and 'J' ... because they have that little nub to let your fingers know where to place your hands ... but even then, I usually just move my finger placement left or right until I find the right setup anyway.

[-] XTL@sopuli.xyz 2 points 5 days ago

Also, keycaps on different rows are different shapes, unless you have a very low profile keyboard.

[-] OpenStars@piefed.social 5 points 1 week ago

Hey, a personalized keyboard, neat! 😉

[-] Blackmist@feddit.uk 24 points 1 week ago

If you do this, remember to change the keyboard layout to match.

[-] TDCN@feddit.dk 24 points 1 week ago

Jokes on you, i use Dvorak touch typing so I have no idea what's actually printed on the keys since I never pay attention to it anyway. I would literally not notice at all if you swapped them.

[-] SupraMario@lemmy.world 24 points 1 week ago

I think like 99% of people who know how to type properly don't look at the keys. This is only gonna mess up the chicken pecking typers.

[-] humorlessrepost@lemmy.world 12 points 1 week ago

In my office, we call them PMs.

[-] Rolive@discuss.tchncs.de 6 points 1 week ago

"Chicken pecking typers"

I nearly spat out my coffee.

[-] Noodle07@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

I look often because I'm very good at missing the keys or pressing two of them at once

Non-destructice hijinks were highly encouraged at my first job. It was a way to encourage people to remember to lock up their computers when they stepped away.

So mouse button settings were often reversed, hotkeys were mapped, desktop backgrounds were modified, and basically every other non-destructive computer prank was pulled.

[-] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago

My favorite was screenshotting the screen then moving their icons and taskbar to a second monitor that was not plugged in.

[-] Jankatarch@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

You can also toggle icons off.

[-] Hossenfeffer@feddit.uk 8 points 1 week ago

I worked in a Nac office. Everyome had am idemtical lookimg bluetooth 'nagic' nouse.

Ramdonly swappimg a few aroumd was always a great 'ice-breaker' for the begimming of a stressful day!

[-] Cliff@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

Open a lot of windows and screenshot it for the new background picture. Was always funny to watch people desperately trying to close all the windows.

[-] The_v@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

My favorite was to take a screenshot of the desktop and set it as the background. Then put all of the icons into a folder. Most people I left the folder on the desktop. The IT guys, the folder was then hidden.
