Bluesky is quickly becoming as bad or worse than other platforms. I knew that "no more Caesars" was bullshit.

It's amazing how people just can't learn the lesson that the problem isn't that a particular oligarch owns a public forum, but that public forums are privately owned in the first place.

They did make the at protocol. You can self-host your bluesky.

[-] whyNotSquirrel@sh.itjust.works 18 points 6 days ago

why would you selfhost blue sky instead of mastodon?

[-] exu@feditown.com 12 points 6 days ago

The discovery algorithm runs through Bluesky servers and is extremely resource intensive to self host.

[-] limerod@reddthat.com 1 points 3 days ago

Why would you self host bluesky. When you have an actual federated open source platform like Lemmy or mastodon?

They are infinitely better respect and grant you the four freedoms of libre software.

This development didn't shock me. I tried Bluesky a while ago to choose which SM platforms are suitable for me. It is filled with corpos, libs and OF girls. It's like a Twitter Lite.

[-] vfreire85@lemmy.ml 5 points 6 days ago

perfect definition of bluesky.

[-] KoloradoKoolAid75@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 5 days ago

I would also like to add their "federation" is actually scam-like. one can't find different instances as easily like Lemmy, Mastodon, or PeerTube.

[-] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 4 points 4 days ago

Bluesky seems like the colour of little aryan eyes.

Never ever trust a company.

Hard to find non-biased info about this, but it appears to be about doxxing? Public info is claimed, but that has to be investigated.

Their names and home towns are published by a newspaper. Its very definitely public info

Why did they do it? Was it something a little like the Scunthorpe problem (ex: they got suspended because it contained Nazi content but they didn't realize the purpose was to expose Nazis)?

[-] admin@lemmy.my-box.dev 8 points 6 days ago

If you look right now, the top comment is showing a list of names, ages, and locations.

I'm guessing "researchers aren't allowed to share publicly available information" means "we're not allowed to dox people, how dare they".

I have no sympathy for nazis, but this is just creating outrage for the sake of it.

[-] Engywuck@lemmy.zip 4 points 6 days ago

Using common sense? Here? How dare you!

[-] admin@lemmy.my-box.dev 4 points 6 days ago

Yeah, my bad.
