Did Congress approve the allocation of money for this project? No.

It must be difficult to be an American watching Trump destroy the country your ancestors have been building for hundreds of years. He has caused massive generational and irreversible damage at this point and its only getting worse.

Oh, and China just set a trade surplus record above 1 trillion thanks to Trump, first and only country to do that, how is all that winning going?

What’s even harder is watching family and neighbors try to explain why it’s a good thing.

[-] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 week ago

I wonder how they'll spin it when he publicly burns the constitution

[-] GuyFawkesV@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Time to cut those people out of your life. It’s hard, but you know it’s true.

[-] KnitWit@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

I basically already have (years ago). But when you’ve got family that hasn’t been cut off, the ones who have still manage to make appearances.

[-] atomicbocks@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 week ago

My ancestors were forced from their land by the American government in an event known as the Trail of Tears. So this is kinda a mixed bag for me really…

[-] frog_brawler@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

It’s insanely difficult. All of this shit has substantially changed who I am at my core. I opted not to leave the country a few years back because my parents wouldn’t have been able to get in anywhere else for being too old.

Now I’m pretty much waiting around for this whole thing to get rebooted.

Now I’m pretty much waiting around for this whole thing to get rebooted.

That's part of the problem. Everyone is standing around waiting for someone else to fix it for them.

You gotta pull together with others and work as a group to fight back.

I know group cooperation towards a common goal runs counter to the "nation of rugged individuals " mythos that Americans have for themselves, but that's what it will take.

[-] Madison420@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

What's with all these ca accounts vying for open revolt.

[-] frog_brawler@lemmy.world 0 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

I live 4 days drive from DC

[-] PhAzE@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 week ago

It can't be rebooted until the series finale ends... in civil war.

[-] minorkeys@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Is Congress going to use any of its powers to stop him? Probably no.

[-] bytesonbike@discuss.online 2 points 1 week ago

Is the ballroom finished yet, or did he get bored?

[-] Earthman_Jim@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 week ago

There is a concept of a ballroom.

[-] GuyFawkesV@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

So we have a two month lead time to get ahead of this. Dems, what are you doing about it???

[-] underisk@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

They will strongly advise the president that what he’s doing is illegal and immoral and send you panicked fund raising emails about it. Oh, and text messages. Can’t forget those.

[-] AnchoriteMagus@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Just a reminder to any DC area contractors who may or may not be involved in upcoming unnamed construction projects: a couple bags of sugar or 2-liters of cola added to a truckload of concrete will drastically alter setting times and compromise the final strength of construction.

Just a fun little tidbit to tuck away in your brain for later.

[-] Bwaz@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

A more important reminder to contractors: if Congress doen't fund the slparticular project, you WILL NOT be paid for your work or materials. Trump signing the contract doesn't make the federal government responsible for the cost and of course Donald won't pay it from his own pocket.

[-] AnchoriteMagus@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Absolutely. Just look at how Trump treated every contractor who ever did work for him on his buildings in New York. As soon as the work is done, sue, counter-sue, and never pay.

[-] GuyFawkesV@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Also, name and shame any contractors you see doing that work.

[-] Eheran@lemmy.world 0 points 1 week ago

Couple of bags (>= 2kg) or 2 liters of cola (200 g) to a truck load? Not only is there a magnitude difference, I also doubt that 2 kg will do that. Normal amounts are up to 0.1 %, say you need 0.5 % to make it significantly weaker. 10 cubic yards, 7.5 m³ of concrete, are about 18'000 kg. 0.5 % of that are 90 kg.

[-] AnchoriteMagus@lemmy.world 0 points 1 week ago
[-] Eheran@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

So it will even set faster and really take at least 0.5 % to reduce the strength in any significant way.

I'm guessing hes copying the Arc de Triomphe simply because he hasn't seen the Brandenburger Tor.

I wonder when he's gonna approach Hugo Boss for new uniforms for the Secret Service.

[-] myfunnyaccountname@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 week ago

Promise you he doesn’t know the difference between the two. Or that the other exists.

[-] Kolanaki@pawb.social 1 points 1 week ago

France already built this wonder. You can't build the same wonder another civ already has!

[-] Sunflier@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

I think this is evidence that Trump got through school by copying the other kids' homework.

[-] Tolookah@discuss.tchncs.de 0 points 1 week ago

That's... About 4x longer away than 2 weeks, and it's been a decade since he said he'd have healthcare solved in 2 weeks, so In 40 years that arch might begin

[-] Kirp123@lemmy.world 0 points 1 week ago

Nah, the arch will start when he says it because it benefits him.

[-] Soulphite@reddthat.com 1 points 1 week ago

It took them one second to put his name up on John F. Kennedy Center after they illegally voted to do it.
