I got a warning on reddit a couple days ago for suggesting Deni Avdija (NBA player) is getting a superstar whistle this season because he is Israeli.

They removed my comment and threatened me with a ban for promoting violence when all I said was "It's because he's Israeli." In response to the OPs question.

I was mostly joking, but it kinda seems like they are already doing what this guy is saying they should do.

Remember if you must reddit, lurk, any voting, commenting you do over there is transferring value from you to reddit.

I know, I feel a bit ashamed that I made an account and started commenting again. I'm going to delete it again soon.

People underestimate how hard it is to stay out of the comments. Most of our happy chemicals come from the comments. We’ve trained ourselves to head there after reading the post, if not just the headline. It’s not good, not now, when the comments are policed and filtered so thoroughly.

And this is why I’m here

The fact the moderator didn't even ask for proof for such claim. Typical behaviour.

So...the Jews want to control the media...? Man, they're really trying to live up to some of those old stereotypes.

[-] geneva_convenience@lemmy.ml 12 points 6 days ago

Not Jews but Zionists specifically, including Christian Zionists. Zionists have had siginficant control over US media for a very long time but when you state the obvious people call it the antisemitic trope because they have been conditioned to do so. They were pretty open about why they bought TikTok

[-] RagingRobot@lemmy.world 5 points 6 days ago

But now that it's a stereotype you aren't allowed to call it out if it really happens lol

[-] minorkeys@lemmy.world 2 points 6 days ago

Shrewd maneuvers.

[-] collapse_already@lemmy.ml 25 points 1 week ago

And remember his definition of anti-Semitism includes accurately reporting the activities of Israelis in Gaza.

Only antisemitism? Not other forms of racism?

I bet the only form of "antisemitism" this is about, is criticism of genocide.

[-] DieserTypMatthias@lemmy.ml 8 points 6 days ago

Thank god I am not American.

Europe unfortunately isn't really going in the right direction either with things like chat control

I mean, the title may be true, but I'd hardly call this a crazy law. Draconian censorship is routine and endemic globally. It's the Free Speech policy that's "crazy".

As more media is heavily monetized, the real appeal of censorship is as a revenue source. Surveillance, draconian administration, and targeting of dissidents all become income streams for the platforms.

Nothing unusual about that, either

[-] ChristchurchAsshole@lemmy.ml 1 points 5 days ago

I like free speech. I'm on a 1st amendment guaranteed free speech website and I can scrap with diehard trump supporters on there which is quite fun. There are people who love trump of course and there are also people on the right who are aware that trump is a zionist pet. It's nice being able to disagree with people but without being banned for having the wrong opinion. This way, I develop a better understanding of how others think.

How is targeting dissidents a revenue source? Not in most countries surely?

[-] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

How is targeting dissidents a revenue source?

States with large pools of disposable income and businesses with big PR budgets will pay top dollar to squelch activists and opponents.

Not in most countries surely?

How much is Palantir getting paid? How much is Black Cube getting paid? There's always a pricetag on this work and plenty of organizations - especially fascist governments - are happy to outsource the work to friendly contractors.

When any criticism of the Israeli government or expression of solidarity with the Palestinian people is "antisemitic", you've damaged and weakened the very meaning of the word "antisemitism" and the moral authority of those who wield it.

[-] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 38 points 1 week ago

Thankfully, there's literally no way that can backfire, which is a real relief.

[-] fartographer@lemmy.world 36 points 1 week ago

I've heard some people say some straight-up antisemitic things recently, and, for the first time in my life, I've been scared to speak up against it. Because this country successfully destroyed the meaning of antisemitism to the point that a Nazi could easily stomp my Jewish ass without facing real heat concerning hate crimes because they support Israel or whatever.

My community should have really considered the repercussions of agreeing with a Nazi back when they had a chance. Instead, when I'd point out that being on the same page as Nazis usually implies you're on the wrong side, they responded that maybe it's time to admit that Hitler might have had some good ideas.

You don't have to have seen Lost Boys to know that you shouldn't invite a vampire into your home. Same goes for Nazis.

[-] tlekiteki@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 6 days ago

i have a question to ponder. Why is the term 'antisemitism' used so much more often than 'antijudaism'

[-] yeather@lemmy.ca 2 points 6 days ago

Someone else gave the clean version, but the conspiracy theory version is Antisemitism relates Jews with the middle east even though most are from Eastern Europe and have no connection to actual semites. Therefore the term antisemitism is an extension of zionism.

[-] fartographer@lemmy.world 1 points 6 days ago

Because Judaism only covers the religion, while semitism covers so much more. It would not be antisemitic to say that my chances for dementia are significantly elevated, even though that is a common trait with people of my Jewish lineage. And, in fact, I've watched most of my family die from neurodegenerative diseases.

What is antisemitic is when people tell me that I don't have a very Jewish-looking nose. No amount of reading the Torah will give your family dementia or enlarge your nose.

The chances that I'm circumcised are higher, and that's because of my religion. Guessing that wouldn't be antisemitic, but asking if my parents cut my pp off could possibly be seen as such.

I'm not sure if I made sense with all this. You're welcome.

[-] tlekiteki@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 6 days ago

my answer would be that Palestinians are Semites

Sounds like a good way to get people who have no problem with Israel to start having a problem with Israel.

[-] Formfiller@lemmy.world 28 points 1 week ago

If you don’t have a problem with Israel you’re not paying attention

Buddy, I don't want people to think Jews control the media, but it sure seems like you do

[-] Formfiller@lemmy.world 31 points 1 week ago

It’s not “Jews” it’s a fundamentalist ethnostate that has occupied our government. Implying it’s “Jews” just plays into their victim defense. Not trying to get on you just trying to spread awareness about changing our language so it’s harder for Israel to claim victim hood for the consequences of their own actions.

Capitalism is the heir of feudalism and always the prelude to fascism, a system of control and oppression, never a political system. Billionairs and politicians need to be controlled, not the other way arround.

At this point it's pretty clear America will support Israel regardless of what we say or do. Does free speech even matter anymore?

The First Amendment is already gone. Have you seen what happens to people who criticize the regime? The US is cooked, fam.

[-] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 3 points 6 days ago

First Amendment was always a polite fiction of the regime. Americans get to pretend they have it until they upset someone with actual power.

But you're always free to run scams, to slander the weak and vulnerable, and to rally bigots into a lynch mob. So the idea of Free Speech remains valuable to demagogues and unscrupulous marketing goons alike.

I had a meme for this but that will be redacted for convenience.
