So, I had no idea, but from a cursory search, I found these headlines:

  • Steven Crowder exposed himself at work
  • Steven Crowder suspended from YouTube for letting Alex Jones co-host
  • YouTube removes Steven Crowder video for violating COVID policy

So yeah, probably we don't need to use him in a popular meme format.

You're missing the verbal/emotional abuse of his (pregnant) wife

Your username makes me happy. I approve

Who's steven crowder?

Edit: Oh, its that change my mind meme template. I didn't even know his name lol

[-] bazus1@lemmy.world 37 points 1 year ago

See? This guy's got it.

[-] assassinatedbyCIA@lemmy.world 14 points 1 year ago

He thinks wives should be the property of their husbands.

[-] bentsea@lemm.ee 19 points 1 year ago

You're not missing out. The guy is top tier gross. But, just better to not use his meme.

[-] TWeaK@lemm.ee 13 points 1 year ago

Yeah I mean I'm about as indifferent to using him in the meme as I am with the Drake meme - and I blame Drake (in part) for all the deaths at Astroworld. The meme is separate to the man.

Except Hide The Pain Harold, he's a dude and deserves love for being in and embracing his meme.

[-] LanyrdSkynrd@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

Can you elaborate on why you blame Drake for the Astroworld crush?

I just read the whole Wikipedia article about the incident. There is definitely a lot of blame to go around based on that article, but I doesnt have much about Drake's role in it. It seems like he was only on stage for one song, and wouldn't have been in any position to stop the show.

I'm not defending Drake, I'm just curious about what context I'm missing.

[-] TWeaK@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago

He was on stage when it happened, not quite pushing for fans to riot as much as Travis but still carrying on blind while people died. He definitely had some ability to do something, being on stage.

He's nowhere near as guilty as Travis, but I do hold him at least partly responsible. Probably because I don't really like him, and getting on stage with Travis didn't endear me any more.

[-] darthfabulous42069@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago

Are you talking about Drake from Drake & Josh?

[-] Egg_In_Question@lemmy.sdf.org 4 points 1 year ago

Drake the music artist. Commonly used in the template with somebody saying no to one thing but yes to another to put it simply.

[-] darthfabulous42069@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago

Ohhh, that guy. Okay, thanks, I had no idea that guy was in a meme.

[-] seabromd@lemmy.world 49 points 1 year ago

This is a terrific substitute, which I believe everyone could get behind.

[-] ech@lemm.ee 20 points 1 year ago

Genuinely bugs me every time I see the meme. Even just referencing it feels like a tribute, but I get it's pretty entrenched at this point.

[-] Sniatch@lemmy.world 14 points 1 year ago

I always disliked that meme template after I learned more about that guy

[-] sentient_loom@sh.itjust.works 10 points 1 year ago

Yeah it always bugged me that everyone uses that meme

[-] can@sh.itjust.works 10 points 1 year ago

What would Watterson think of this co-opting though?

[-] Bristlecone@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

As far as I know, Watterson was only against merchandising of the characters. With the exception of the pissing sticker I'm sure, as long as you're using the media in good faith I think he'd probably be okay with it? Didn't know the man

[-] Cube6392@beehaw.org 9 points 1 year ago

I feel similar about Drake memes. Not as strongly, mind you, but I still feel it

[-] dmmeyournudes@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago

if we can turn hitler into a meme, we can turn him into a meme.

[-] Maturin@sh.itjust.works 9 points 1 year ago

For real. I instinctively downvote anything with the Crowder format even when I agree with the sentiment. Thank you for your service.

[-] Bipta@kbin.social 7 points 1 year ago

I had no idea it was Crowder but I'll probably do the same now.

[-] MBM@lemmings.world 4 points 1 year ago

At least 90% of the time it's not even a meme, just an opinion

[-] sanataseva@kbin.social 7 points 1 year ago

Thank. You.

I prefer knowing Steve Crowder as the clueless meme guy, it takes some of his credibility away

[-] Bristlecone@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

I absolutely love this

[-] veniasilente@lemm.ee 3 points 1 year ago

.webp

You lost me at adopting this meme format right there. At least Steven Crowder is in good ol' 80% compression JPG.

An international (English speaking) socialist Lemmy community free of the "ML" influence of instances like lemmy.ml and lemmygrad. This is a place for undogmatic shitposting and memes from a progressive, anti-capitalist and truly anti-imperialist perspective, regardless of specific ideology.

Serious posts, news, and discussion go in c/Socialism.

If you are new to socialism, you can ask questions and find resources over on c/Socialism101.

Please don't forget to help keep this community clean by reporting rule violations, updooting good contributions and downdooting those of low-quality!

Rules

Version without spoilers

0. Only post socialist memes

That refers to funny image macros and means that generally videos and screenshots are not allowed. Exceptions include explicitly humorous and short videos, as well as (social media) screenshots depicting a funny situation, joke, or joke picture relating to socialist movements, theory, societal issues, or political opponents. Examples would be the classic case of humorous Tumblr or Twitter posts/threads. (and no, agitprop text does not count as a meme)

1. Socialist Unity in the form of mutual respect and good faith interactions is enforced here

Try to keep an open mind, other schools of thought may offer points of view and analyses you haven't considered yet. Also: This is not a place for the Idealism vs. Materialism or rather Anarchism vs. Marxism debate(s), for that please visit c/AnarchismVsMarxism.

2. Anti-Imperialism means recognizing capitalist states like Russia and China as such

That means condemning (their) imperialism, even if it is of the "anti-USA" flavor.

3. No liberalism, (right-wing) revisionism or reactionaries.

That includes so called: Social Democracy, Democratic Socialism, Dengism, Market Socialism, Patriotic Socialism, National Bolshevism, Anarcho-Capitalism etc. . Anti-Socialist people and content have no place here, as well as the variety of "Marxist"-"Leninists" seen on lemmygrad and more specifically GenZedong (actual ML's are welcome as long as they agree to the rules and don't just copy paste/larp about stuff from a hundred years ago).

4. No Bigotry.

The only dangerous minority is the rich.

5. Don't demonize previous and current socialist experiments or (leading) individuals.

We must constructively learn from their mistakes, while acknowledging their achievements and recognizing when they have strayed away from socialist principles.

(if you are reading the rules to apply for modding this community, mention "Mantic Minotaur" when answering question 2)

6. Don't idolize/glorify previous and current socialist experiments or (leading) individuals.

Notable achievements in all spheres of society were made by various socialist/people's/democratic republics around the world. Mistakes, however, were made as well: bureaucratic castes of parasitic elites - as well as reactionary cults of personality - were established, many things were mismanaged and prejudice and bigotry sometimes replaced internationalism and progressiveness.
