Jensen Huang from Nvidia is a dumb fuck. There, got you some training data.

[-] Greddan@feddit.org 38 points 2 weeks ago

He's a salesman, and thus a worthless parasite with a negative impact on society.

[-] DERRALEXANO@sh.itjust.works 12 points 2 weeks ago

They ought to pay you for that training data but they wont because they thieving.

[-] sexy_peach@feddit.org 6 points 2 weeks ago

So true and because the models gobble it all up they do "know" of their limitations better than their makers...

[-] glimse@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

He's not a dumb fuck and that's the problem

[-] raspberriesareyummy@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

Well - he's selectively dumb on this topic, or (more likely) playing by a hidden agenda (that we can all guess). The dishonesty is why - without any idea of hia horizontal qualities - I feel that the expression obtained by combining the words "dumb" and "fuck" is adequate :p

"People aren't deepthroating the plagiarism and csam machine that we keep saying will put them out of a job???"

[-] DoctimusLime@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 1 week ago

Well said 💪

[-] Infernal_pizza@lemmy.dbzer0.com 50 points 2 weeks ago

Why didn't I think of that! Just think positively and the price of RAM will come back down again, the datacenters will magically stop needing so much water and electricity, and people will just decide to not use it to spread misinformation out of the goodness of their hearts!

[-] ulu_mulu@lemmy.zip 35 points 2 weeks ago

They're destroying the environment more than ever before, they're pushing companies to replace workers with AI making people lose their jobs, they're scraping everything on the internet without any regard for copyright laws, they're screwing hardware market so consumers can't afford decent PCs anymore.

And they expect us to be happy about it?

[-] Zoldyck@lemmy.world 30 points 2 weeks ago

It's the other way around

It’s not enough for them to have all the money and all the political support. They need you to love them, if not worship them, as well.

How dare us peasants have concerns about what they are doing

NVIDIA CEO says ~~relentless negativity around~~ AI is hurting society and has done a lot of damage

[-] Samsuma@lemmy.ml 22 points 1 week ago

won't someone please think of the stockholders etc etc..

Brilliant lmao

[-] Damage@feddit.it 19 points 1 week ago
[-] Kraiden@piefed.social 18 points 2 weeks ago

That's funny. I thought it was the relentless drive to force AI up everyone's ass by companies like NVIDEA that's hurting society and has "done a lot of damage"

[-] skuzz@discuss.tchncs.de 17 points 1 week ago

So, NVIDIA CEO, shut it all down for a month and see what happens. I bet nobody will care.

I have to use a lot of LLM tech daily and wouldn't miss it a bit, myself. Would even sleep better at night knowing all that energy use isn't destroying the planet's habitability.

I actually heard from an acquaintance that their employer is forcing employees to burn at least $100 of tokens a day "or else" - like, what??

Such a bubble. Can't wait for it to pop.

[-] RedstoneValley@sh.itjust.works 16 points 1 week ago

This and Satya Nadella's response to "Microslop" are probably in preparation for next weeks headline: "Trump administration classifies criticism towards AI as domestic terrorism" yw

[-] belated_frog_pants@beehaw.org 16 points 1 week ago

"You guys are harshing my bubble 😠"

[-] hyacin@lemmy.ml 13 points 1 week ago

Maybe... make it... not, hurt society? Crazy, I know.

[-] funkless_eck@sh.itjust.works 12 points 1 week ago

The solution is simple: make a product worth using that's helpful and does what's advertised, and doesn't destroy the planet to do so.

[-] HiddenLayer555@lemmy.ml 12 points 1 week ago

Prolatariat say relentless exploitation by CEOs is hurting society and has "done a lot of damage."

[-] DoctimusLime@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 1 week ago

Eat the rich asap 💪

[-] JoYo@lemmy.ml 11 points 1 week ago

It's not helpful to the industry. It's not helpful to society. It's not helpful to the governments.

[...]

I think we're scaring people from making the investments in AI that makes it safer, more functional, more productive, and more useful to society.

bruh...

[-] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 9 points 1 week ago

How many billions, if not trillions have been invested? And we are scaring the poor investors who are making the biggest economic bubble ever?

Fuuuuck you, Nvidia

[-] hsr@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 1 week ago

Based Jensen Huang in alternate reality:

[-] kibiz0r@midwest.social 10 points 1 week ago

Trying desperately to keep the ponzi scheme going, but his biggest customers already have warehouses full of GPUs that will never get connected.

The bubble is full, dude. Just try to minimize the damage from the pop so we don’t try to figure out what size pitchfork your dumb leather jacket is.

[-] utopiah@lemmy.ml 10 points 2 weeks ago

Oh noes... who will think of the shareholders?! /$

What's next, he's also going to ask people not use terms like "slop" like MicroSlop CEO?

Honestly a lot of people, including me, who do complain about the AI hype (not public research in AI) were, or still are, sadly, customers. People who wanted to buy MORE of his products but not fund something that has so many predictable negative consequences with so little upsides except for his bank account.

[-] realitista@lemmus.org 9 points 2 weeks ago

I would have a lot less negativity around AI if the mag 7 and all AI companies agreed to sign a contract to be nationalized once they have automated a significant amount of jobs, with their profits to be used for a national basic income. I would be much more positive in that case, Jensen. Give it some thought.

[-] lost_faith@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 week ago

HAAAAHAAAHAAAHAHA (picture that church guy with scary beady eyes, exorcised COVID), I'm sorry, didn't mean to laughahahahaha

[-] BallShapedMan@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

Instead of a swear jar there needs to be an AI jar.

But instead of putting coins in it when someone says something stupid like this we just kick em in the junk as hard as we can at least once per person who has to read the headline.

[-] boaratio@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

Jenson Wong sucks. Has always sucked, and will continue to suck.

[-] OldChicoAle@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

Literally how? AI is hurting society. Not the other way around, jackass

[-] chunes@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

In Japan and China people are actually optimistic about AI.

It's not the tech itself, it's the fact that in some countries, new technology is used for power and control instead of lifting everyone.

[-] banett@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 week ago

As a Japanese, I don't think Japan looks it's okay. If you provoke manga artists, illustrators, animators, gamers, Nintendo or FromSoftware, you face the strongest possible anger in our country.

[-] chunes@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

I was mainly going off this poll and a few others that had similar results. I do see Japan is a bit of an outlier, but they still seem to view AI more favorably than the US and Europe.

[-] banett@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Please check the date. When we have passed the one of most dramatic years in world history, a poll from one and a half years ago is not so helpful. Well, I also thought artists were overreacting in that time. I was a PC gamer. Next, Stargate. My Niemöller Moment.

edit: about date.

[-] ms_lane@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Damage to what? nVidia's profits? Let me (badly, I can't play) play the worlds smallest violin for you.

[-] BagOfHeavyStones@piefed.social 1 points 2 weeks ago

It sort of works, sort of doesn't.

It wrote a WordPress plugin for me that worked well - to parse the radio player plugin data. After a false start.

It also helped write a command line script in Linux to append an audio file to all audio files in a folder.

But it gave out of date info on how to resolve booking.com billing issues.

So, good for programming stuff, not so good for other stuff. I'm still not sure how it's supposed to replace everyone.

[-] kibiz0r@midwest.social 10 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

It also discouraged you from finding/starting an open source solution for those problems, thus undermining the high-quality open knowledge ecosystem that it relied on in the first place.

[-] BagOfHeavyStones@piefed.social 1 points 1 week ago

The developer of the plugin has more or less abandoned it. I posted the code on my Blog in case it helps others; although the chances of it getting indexed and being included in a useful search result is quite slim.

I don't know what the plugin does but script to append an audio file to all audio files is possible to do cleanly in just three lines. Being able to write three lines doesn't make something good at programming, and taking many more lines would make it bad at programming.
