Made for practicing portraits.

One of my friends told me the eyes make him look like a vampire, so I kept them as they were, gives the portrait a nice Romanian touch.

As a bonus, I will share the last time I tried depicting Marx, it was in August 2023. I am quite proud of how far my skills improved in 2 years.

I tried initially to give him ordinary colors, but it was so boring I lost interest halfway through and waited a day before trying again with a more interesting palette.

cute marx vs menacing marx

This one's good for different reasons. It's warmer, more realist, and the little lines on his shirt feel playful. If you pick this one up again the warmth and playfulness are great themes to expound on.

Vampire Marx versus Blade.

Unironically amazing idea. Should have a snipes-hesitation moment when he gets the opportunity to kill Vampire Marx.

Omg I love the brushwork ๐Ÿ˜

I think the eyes make him look vampiric because of the slightly yellow tone and slightly upturned lower eyelids...though the crimson tinges in his hair and deep contrast in his outfit might be part of it ๐Ÿ˜‚ The face shadows too

Thank you, I make a conscious effort to make the brushwork a point of appeal.

It's really great, jumped out and stopped me mid scroll because of how distinct it looks

Nice!

My first thought upon seeing the crystal necklace was "secret society," like it was the logo of some society that existed through the history of the alternate timeline your paintings inhabit.

It's actually the society. In the alternate timeline of my own works that's the symbol of the global socialist republic. It also acts as a nifty calling card to me, specifically, because it's also my own symbol.

I think Marx had near-black irises, both from looking at photos of him and descriptions from the time like this:

His physique is well knit, massive, erect. He has the head of a man of intellect, and the features of a cultivated Jew. His hair and beard are long, and iron-gray in color. His eyes are glittering black, shaded by a pair of bushy eyebrows.

Obviously not endorsing the physiognomy there.

Edit: Awesome portrait, just wanted to mention since you were discussing eye color.
