I didn't think people still opened new user accounts on facebook
More people gently creep into dementia every day.
I just pull a recent #selfie post from Twitter and upload it with metadata stripped
Weird. I've never had to do this. I also only use FB for marketplace
I thought they've always been doing it, I never succeeded creating a facebook account because of it
This information goes right to the US government.
Anyone who doesn't think Facebook is an arm of the US government is naive at best.
Would you happen to have a source on this?
wdym? facebook automatically showed us it used facial recognition at least as far back as 2007 by asking us to click boxes on faces and subsequently asking us to label them... We really did all of the heavy lifting for them. -I got out while i could in ~2018
I never got in, and I stopped letting people take pictures of me so they couldn't put me on there either.
Happened to me on twitter. They wanted to open the front camera and look at my face and estimate my age.
I just went to thispersondoesnotexist.com on PC and showed twitter that image. They accepted it.

No thanks, I'll close my FB Marketplace account.
Unfortunately it forced all existing users to submit as well, but we already gave it a bunch of photos of ourselves before the beast had revealed itself
after years of getting timeouts and jail for minor cussing, the robots perma-banned me with no explanation, just a link to community standards. was pretty tired of the endless bot/slop/spam in most groups. keep that self-clicking robot swarm. family has my number.
Facebook has new users?? In 2026??
Right? I ditched them almost a decade ago.

Fuck Facebook. Anyway, i prefer social media that doesn't doxx me
I see a lot of people saying "just don't use it". If it was that easy…
In some places, FB has took the lion share of the 2nd hand online selling. Historical platforms are in agony and your chance of finding a buyer/seller dramatically reduce if you avoid FB maretplace.
In some places, FB is so common that schools, activities etc. are organized on FB. You don't have an account, no worry: you'll be the lone idiot to drop your kid at school the day it's closed because of a snow storm.
In some places, FB is the personal life blogging platform. So if you want to know about old friends you've left behind as you were relocating to different countries, you're going to miss on some quite important events (death in the family, etc.) as that's where they let people know.
In some places, if you want to build a network, that's where "everyone" is. You like trekking and want to find a group for that? They're all on FB. You want to play board games? Groups are all on FB.
The list goes on and on.
Right, when you apply for jobs, they want socials and indeeds and this and that, when you meet people they want to add you on Facebook. These are "private" companies, but because they are natural monopolies, they essentially become quasi-required parts of being able to function normally within society.
The right way to deal with this is to regulate the fuck out of the natural monopolies, but rich elitists who own the government by proxy and big surveillance tech have this symbiotic relationship where big tech surveils and secretly data mines the public (to blacklist and exclude potential risks to the system and monitor those people) and so it won't happen.
Republicans, hurt most by the blacklisting initially, were most likely to regulate big tech, ironically, but now money and ass-kissing of Republican leaders has changed the game and no one will fucking regulate them. All politicians who allow this to happen are either weak or whores, being paid to just perform a role of politician.
I've job hopped a lot, and literally no company has ever asked for my social media besides indeed, which I keep sterile clean. Actually, they've never even specifically asked for that either, that's just where I've applied through.
Our industries may differ though.
Yeah. Don't care. Won't use it. It's that easy.
Same for Instagram. Not doing something is easy.
They may get a pic, but they won't get my pic.
they may get a dickpic
"Sorry, you appear not to be old enough to use the site"
Lol
I wouldn’t know - quit using meta products years ago!
It's been several years already.
I don't even use facial unlock on my phone. I enter the pin every time.
Unfortunately, to access the Social Security site, I was required to send a picture of my face and driver's license. So, I suppose Trump will sell that to whoever want's to buy it now.
Don't use this shit
Use a Google Voice phone number, and an AI generated photo/video.
You can even use augmentations to create different photos/videos of the same fake person. Or create an “altered” version of yourself close enough to match whatever Facebook has.
…Hopefully.
I’m in the same predicament. There's always eBay, but they take a fat cut on top of whatever is paid for shipping.
Delete Facebook and problem solved. Here, where I live, we have websites for marketplace and website for concerts.
Facebook is what free'd me of having to interact with my local DSA /hj
Local DSA posts everything on facebook, I don't have facebook and won't post my face onto there to make it happen.
I email them but they just tell me check the facebook
I try to join the discord but they want to see me at events first, which I can't find, because they are posted on the facebook and I can only scroll down 3 posts before I get asked to login.
I give them my number and my signal but they don't reach out.
🙃
Good thing for you, that's terrible OpSec.
Most of the public's awareness of technology is so naive as to basically stick their heads in the sand because they want the convenience and ease and are willing to overlook evil. So they don't care about supply chain evils, corruption that is embedded into the system, so they can scroll TikTok and watch netflix on their offtime, while using Klarma to pay the groceries. Real organization against organizers in which people aren't being data mined would require some technological awareness. The masses just don't have it.
They join political groups on Facebook then get data mined and classified into oblivion until a computer can process their views and give them a discounted ad-supported Netflix so they are less politically upset.
This is our world.

Are they the police?
Would never upload picture to American big tech service and im surprised people think thats something they agree to. I guess the addiction is too strong, to these shitty services.
People who are saying to just delete Facebook or don’t use it aren’t wrong of course (I say that myself, to be clear I hate FB); but as someone who tries to buy and sell things secondhand (I see it as being environmentally responsible), this is largely becoming impossible to do locally without Facebook Marketplace. I honestly have some grudging respect for Facebook’s ability to survive just when you think they might start to become irrelevant. Things were headed that way for them, then they bought Instagram. And then the last couple years, it was sort of common knowledge that the only people who use it anymore are old folks and Nazis… and then FB Marketplace kills Craigslist and becomes the only app people use for local buying/selling.
Idk maybe there’s some opportunity here for some local buy/sell federated service?
No need of an Fakebook account that it can track you, if your family and friends have an account with your data, mail and phone in their agenda. With this also Zuckerbot know it. Apart of all (pixel)tracking API in all websites with an FB link. Because of this, I've blocked all FB services in Portmaster, I can't even access it, but with it, I'm not longer exist for FB.

👇

Yeah, they are like cockroaches. An alternative to marketplace and online stores is sorely needed, even for good old exchange of things.
No problemo, Zuck.
