This is c/privacy: has anyone investigated self-hosted Zulip in terms of privacy? Zulip’s marketing doesn’t seem to emphasize it. Also it’s not federated.
it seems like a really good program. sadly they don't have voice chat/screen sharing...
Isn't there a way to use Jitsi with Zullip for audio?
I'm honestly not sure. there's a call icon below the message input box that generates at Jitsi meet link when clicked, however there doesn't seem to be much integration than that. There's no indicator that shows there's a Jitsi meeting going on on Zulip side. My friends frequently use Discord's voice chat feature to see if there's anyone already in the room and whether they're sharing screen/mic on, so this is a quite necessary feature.
For real? Geez, that's the bare minimum for me to consider it.
I've heard Element and Root talked about for those purposes. Haven't tried them myself yet. My friend group talked about resurecting our long-dead Mumble server, but that's a last-ditch option.
Maybe I should retry it, but I had very bad experience with Matrix in general (Element.io and FluffyChat, web and android) so I'm honestly thinking of it as the last option. Search feature was also pretty mediocre.
