I admit to having pentester brain here but that's not impenetrable to anybody who actually wants to get in there instead of being mostly opportunistic about it on a random break-in risk vs. reward scale. Guarantee you whatever money they spent on bullshit security systems would've been better spent as insurance to just get your home cinema back at 10% of the price since all these places are furnished by interior architects and not like, actually living there, bribing local politicians so a cop car idles outside all day or, if you wanna go really woke with it, welfare. And "guy who really wants to get in there, to get to you, specifically" is like the one thing the police are incredibly bad at protecting against even if you're rich.

I think this mirrors the WSJ-Article: https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/realestate/the-mega-rich-are-turning-their-mansions-into-impenetrable-fortresses/ar-AA1Waeot

About $1 million was spent on bullet-resistant smart glass. And the front-entry security features cost more than $1 million.

Real good use of money to save you being burgled like one one of those rich people home cinema systems that costs 250k or whatever

Bonus lmao:

The home’s most fortified feature lies hidden behind a wood-paneled wall: a reinforced concrete safe room with a 2,000-pound door and an air filtration system built to U.S. Army Corps of Engineers standards.

[-] 7bicycles@hexbear.net 8 points 1 month ago

they might be, my point is they're doing an insanely bad job against protecting against that exact threat

Also these assholes could never stay inside for that long if it came down to it. They need to fly to the island.

My favourite singer had this figured out in the 90s. Not wanting to be around any more people than she had to, Irish singer Enya just went out and bought a castle, and then retrofitted it with modern amenities, like a recording studio, and probably stuff like cable TV/Internet connections and stuff. Not to mention accommodations for her 150 cats or however many she has. She probably even has lodging for the Ryans, the husband-and-wife duo who have been producing and writing for her, respectively, since the 1980s (except husband Nicky passed away last year). I dunno, she doesn't give tours. But she owns a fucking castle and that's awesome.

...not sure what any of this has to do with trains though. Except that both trains and castles are cool?

Its not a real castle to be clear, its a victorian mansion with castle aesthetics. Victorians loved castellating things, I used to live in a random flat that had arrow loopholes.

Once the bourgeoisie got security cameras on their landscaping the elite knew it was time to up their game.

“He came in and we had a tussle,” recalled Grant, formerly known as Alex Da Kid. Grant managed to call his manager, who phoned the police. Soon, officers and helicopters were on the scene.

i-cant

Yeah I'm spending big on moats and armed security, but when the alternative is a just and fair society where I have marginally less material comfort, no expense must be spared.

its easier to move to an island like new zealand than trying to build a fortress in the U.S. Honestly if they're that worried, why not just lobby blackrock to provide the service of making a fortress city for the rich somewhere in the continental USA. if you cant fuck off to an island where the oceans are your best natural defense, creating a very inaccessible DMZ around a city is probably the next best thing, as collective security is infinitely better than individual security. But fuck 'em. make your fancy fallout shelters. An air filtration system built to U.S. Army Corps of Engineers standards with a nuclear grade hepa particulate filter, ptfe hoses, and CPVC pipes doesn't filter cement.

Though I'm kinda curious how much nasty shit can you pour down the pipes before you oversaturate the filter and stank them out of house and home. scientifically speaking.
