Sorry for the dumb question. If you don't embrace any other cultures or languages except your own country, then just say country.

I will never be a "Norwegian Norwegian" as I wasn't born or raised in Norway. I'm American, so my neighbors would be Canada and Mexico.

However, my cultural neighbors would be Sweden, and Finland I guess. I'm not a true Norwegian, for the record, but we embrace our heritage a lot and have been raised around videos of the language since I was little but didn't actually remember anything so I'm learning more.

I don't understand the question.

I'm Australian. New Zealand is undeniably our closest neighbor geographically and culturally. I'd like to think Canada is a close cultural neighbor, I'd also like to think that the US no longer is. Obviously we have strong historic ties to Britain but I've never felt that our cultures are closely aligned. These points might be contentious.

That said, my partner is Thai. The majority of visitors to our house would be Thai. We speak Thai in our house more than English.

I've lived all my life in Spain. The neighbors will always be Portugal, gabachos (France) and moros (Morocco, but also the rest of the arab world)

I guess France, although we kinda hate each other

Don't forget about Tobler's first law of geography.

Everything is related to everything else, but near things are more related than distant things

Cultural patterns will generally follow migration of people, which will largely be localized, but of course there are exceptions in which case you can get some interesting blends.

This would have worked way better centuries ago. Now, anything with a coast is a bit of a surprise bag.

Australia is far from England, and NZ is literally antipodal to Spain which is close, but they're pretty English and not very Papuan or Indonesian.

cultural as in the most culturally similar or as in geographically closest? because if we go on similarity then denmark and scotland should be on your list, at number 1 and 4 respectively. and norway has basically nothing in common with russia.

it's a fun but potentially extremely broad question; if you feel culturally russian, would your neighbors be all 14 of its bordering countries from finland to north korea?

[-] cone_zombie@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 day ago

I've been to Finland and I never felt alien there. Of course, it's a bit different, but "nothing in common" is a bit of an overstretch to me

[-] lime@feddit.nu 1 points 1 day ago

...wha? i said norway has basically nothing in common with russia. where did you get finland?

[-] cone_zombie@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 day ago

You also mentioned Finland and hinted that it's culturally very different to Russia. You also said Finland is close to Norway and Russia has nothing in common with Norway. I'm discussing the general idea you expressed, even if not a direct quote from you, I hope you can understand

i think you're misreading me.

Oh, I meant geographically closest. I should have done similar potentially.

I live in Argentina. Exactly,in Posadas, the capital of Misiones province. Our nearest neighbour is the City of Encarnación, Paraguay. Im 100% sudaca. Proudly sudaca, with all the good and the bad. Today, more bad than good, cause of the Milei goverment.

Sorry for my awful english
