Kids these days will never experience every web page looking like this.
Kids these days are making neocities pages again
neocities is where it's at.
I love that. The enthusiasm of someone who can write 15 pages about penguin migration or medieval catapults is infectious.
I was just talking about this today with my wife's family. We bought a whole house water filter from water filters of america and part of the reason we trusted them was their website. It looks like it is straight out of the early 2000s. We figured if they were scummy then they would put more effort into there site.
I also blame search engines. I type like "python file open parameters" and I really just want the official docs. They're not even on the first page of DDG.
Yesterday, one of our new devs was struggling to get the page count of a word file in Python. I asked if he could just use an index from one of the existing libraries we're using. He proceeded to search it on Bing and then waited for Copilot to generate slopcode at the top of the page. Shocked in horror, I asked, "Are you sure these are real functions?" He responded, I'm sure I can just copy and paste what I need. FML

6 Reddit threads, a bunch of YouTube videos of people with shocked faces (why are they surprised?), an AI summary that may discuss something related to your query or may talk about ways to get a snake to open its mouth, several articles, pretty much anything except the reference manual.
I think the next underground social network should be called “car insurance.”
Nobody would ever find it through a search engine.
Fantastic
On my free trial of kagi the official docs are the very first result without any lenses or settings. I will be buying subscription soon because while not always but sometimes the results are better by a long shot over ddg and google for me.
I've heard good things about kagi, but $10/mo is pretty steep
Trust me, I thought the same, but its honestly almost life changing. Takes me right back to 2008 internet where I could find the shit I wanted. Very little seo and slop.
Kagi, mullvad, ublock origin with huge AI and ad blocklist waterfox (or Firefox) and private DNS are MUST HAVES to use the internet today.
Try the 5 dollar kagi first.
In the meantime i can recommend metager to you, much cheaper (i charged my account at creation with 10€, i've used 3,80€ currently after a few months of usage). You can configure how many tokens your search will use, if you want search suggestions for a fraction of a search and so on. i'm very happy with it and will stay with it, it's very cost efficient.
Edit: I forgot to mention that it is ad-free when paid, has dark mode, open sourced under the AGPL Licence, has blacklist and bangs support, and offers completely anonymous search requests by generating cryptographical tokens if you wish to.
No one seems to know exactly what "modern" means when it comes to "modern design". If you ask ten different developers, you get 11 different answers.
My rule of thumb when I see "modern design" touted as a feature is that the developer chose form over function at every turn.
That is a good definition. As an ex-website designer, I hate the new formats with their bloated flow and flashy appearance while the content is everywhere. Give me some tables and preloaded image sizes so the page loads fast and stops jumping all over the place.
And they all look the same. Maybe because everyone just grabs the same template and there aren't any out there actually trying new looks.
As a current web developer I'm with you except for the tables. I hate tables with a burning, fiery passion.
I do like responsive design to account for mobile, tablet, and desktop so I try to blend that with classic "just works / just here for the data" layouts and generally minimize the flash in favor of the content. In other words, my projects go to a lot of work to look that simple lol.
Not necessarily. Thisishamas dot com was IDF created, run, and promoted. 4chan was also an Epstein creation. bash dot org was also an IDF site. As internet advanced as Israel is, they create some horribly designed and looking websites. Though it may just be to throw the scent off and to make it look like it was made by some amateurs and not them.
Is there any evidence for bash.org? I don't see how hosting it would help the IDF besides maybe getting site visits
4chan was also an Epstein creation.
These claims of 4chan-Epstein connections are becoming more and more ridiculous. No, 4chan was not an Epstein creation.
More than welcome to search for Chris Poole (m00t) in his emails.
Can you point me to something more specific than a bunch of disjointed and duplicate emails? The database is really difficult to navigate.
I don't really know where else to point you other than the literal Epstein emails. Maybe the JMail website? That makes words searchable. Other than that, search engines like Google will at least point you in whatever outlet you prefer listening to. It's been covered by multiple outlets, some, I'm sure, are even owned by the Epstein class.
Have you read the relevant emails yourself, and do you at least vaguely remember their content?
Anyway, the contacts between Poole and Epstein have been covered in media quite a lot and I've read articles about it, as well as checked some of the documents myself. None of what I've previously read and what shows up on google now supports the claim that "4chan was Epstein's creation". Epstein met with Poole in 2011, that's the currently widely confirmed information, and I hope I don't have to write an essay explaining why that's not proof that "4chan was Epstein's creation".
No, but you do have to explain how /pol was started on 4chan a day before m00t met Epstein. So I guess not founded 4chan, but more promoted, and took it under his belt(bad choice of words). /pol is where Qanon started, and some would say where MAGA started as well. The same can be said for DarkMAGA. So you can't make the case that 4chan wasn't influential. I don't think the Brandon, or Dark Brandon things started on 4chan though. Not sure where they originated from, but oddly enough, Fuentes is now telling his "Groypers" to vote for Democrats in the midterm.
but you do have to explain how /pol was started on 4chan a day before m00t met Epstein
I don't have to, because that's a whole other story that I didn't dispute. In fact, perhaps you should explain why you would logically connect these two events in the first place. If Epstein caused/convinced moot to create the board, wouldn't have these two events happened in the opposite order? What do you think was the actual sequence of events?
more promoted, and took it under his belt
It should be admitted that this is only conjecture for now.
So you can’t make the case that 4chan wasn’t influential.
That's ok, because I never even suggested I'd make it. In fact, 4chan may have been the most culturally and politically influential website relative to the size of its userbase.
As for what I am dead certain happened: 4chan had a large proportion of racist and fascist users before 2011. These mainly congregated on the board /n/ ("News"). Due to the board becoming a hotbed of racism, moot deleted it. The users were pissed off. A few months later, /pol/ was created as a replacement to contain the racist users (one of the rules on 4chan said that racism outside of /pol/ is forbidden; from personal experience I can say this wasn't enforced too strictly, but it reflects the original intenet). At that time moot met with Epstein. Later on, the fascist board culture was in harmony with the discourse espoused by Trump, and was likely one of the key origin points for pro-Trump cultural discourse. In 2017, the persona "Qanon" started to post on /pol/, and then migrated to 8chan where many Trump supporters followed. According to Frederick Brennan, the founder of 8chan (and recently deceased), the person behind Qanon was Jim Watkins, who had taken over 8chan from Brennan, although I don't know how solid the evidence for that is, there have been other theories. Also bunch of other stuff happened on 4chan and 8chan, Gamergate, moot retiring, the takedown of 8chan after the Christchurch massacre and subsequent decline of Qanon...
It's difficult to connect this all into a neat unified story. Slapping an "it was Epstein" does not actually make sense of most of it. Even if the Epstein-moot meeting wasn't accidental or inconsequential, what could've actually happened, what would've been Epstein's involvement, why do we have no further evidence of it in the emails, and how was it different from the existing fascist board just keeping up being fascist?
Epstein also had a death certificate a day before he died. You'd think those would go the other way around as well. And you're asking me to put use the same logic as it takes to convince oneself that Epstein comitted suicide.
No? What does that even mean? How are those things comparable?
Are you even trying to explain these events?
How Epstein had a death certificate a day before his death? That's comparable to him meeting m00t a day after /pol was formed. And his suicide is comparable how you need to read between the lines, as the official story isn't worth a damn thing.
Drop your best under construction gifs, so I can put them onto my neocities page!
I never liked web 3.0 for the most part. Bloated trash. I'll take pure HTML any day.
Reading blogs on bearblog.dev is an amazing experience. No algorithms, no discourse, no AI slop (I mean, hopefully 😬) and a majorly decreased amount of depressing world news.
I miss those silly Blogspot blogs with long-ass lists of friendly blogs. I used to add them all to my google reader and just get lost in its variety. Then tumblr came along and it partially took over the image part but after the porn ban debacle it wasn't the same and there are not so many wacky blogs left out there.
