What are we...some kind of Mad Men brought to you by AMC?

That was my favorite line in the show

i think i didn't sit down to watch that show until it was done, but i distinctly remember being disoriented by how absolutely fucked up Don Draper et al were, as characters. unfulfilled, drunk, petty, unhappy and prone to spiraling. they had nice clothes and cars, but they were all disasters. and it wasn't subtext either, it was an ongoing car crash of a bullshit artist barely staying ahead of his own constructed tsunami of lies.

the disorienting part was that, until then, it felt like most people's take home message from the series is that don draper has a cool life and we should all act and dress like him.

i mean, its a very entertaining show, but i would not want to be "Don".

The show is pretty in-your-face about 2nd. Wave Feminism, why it came about, what problems existed within it, what problems it sought to fix, and why it was necessary. Yet it seems the only takeaway people had was "Wow it's so cool how Don Draper, a man who was sexually abused in his childhood and has trouble coping with his trauma, sleeps with so many women!"
