Woah, she looks really happy and chill in the bathtub! :-D

My, sadly now dead, cat always joined me, when I was bathing. But he usually kept to just jumping around the tub and watching me.
If the water was only 2-3cm, he would happily splash around in it though :-)

Fuck, I miss him...

Lost one of my favourites last October. Still get emotional.

I recently asked a friend who paints to paint a picture of him. Thats going to be hard to recieve.

Thinking of you.

Thanks, last week it was his first year death anniversary.
We still light a candle besides his urn everyday.
Just can't get over it. He was like a mix of brother and child for me, and we went through tough times together.

Feel hugged, thanks that I could share my pain

Also a great way to clog the drain, considering how much my cats shed.

Lmao my 19 year old boy is a fighter, we always end up with battle wounds if he needs a bath. He finds the comb and brush a bit too overstimulating this time of year too, too many tugs for the amount I'd have to do... So, he gets a nice patchy butt whenever I can dart in for a dreadlock. He is definitely part maine coon (large), so his hips aren't great for grooming. A small price to pay haha, at least I get to call him more silly names for the month.

Have you tried one of those grooming mitts?

Yea, this is beyond all that. I'm having them finish the job when they put him under anesthetic next week for a little operation. I usually get him a lions cut this time of year. His undercoat is just so fine.

Man if I ever tried this with either of mine they'd eviscerate me. Vest I can do for winter coats is lots of brushing.

I have never bathed my cat. I always assumed he did it fine himself. He doesn't stink and rarely goes outside. Am I missing something?

[-] iamthetot@piefed.ca 6 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

No, you're not missing anything. Most cats can get along just fine, and have obviously done so for thousands of years.

Some cats actually like water, and might enjoy the bath. Other cats may find it difficult to groom themselves due to weight or age, and could use the help with the groom. Other cats might just get bathed and groomed by their owners as a treat (like a spa day!).

It's also just not a bad idea to acclimate your cat to water in general, really. It could be useful in the future if you ever need to apply a flea bath, or they require it for any of the reasons above later in life even if not now.

Ok that makes sense. I thought maybe I wad doing him a disservice haha

One thing is that pet groomers will recommend grooming kittens so they get used to the experience, so that if they have trouble grooming themselves and need help it's less stressful for them to get washed, dried, all that stuff. (Though this is coming from the groomers who get paid when you do that, for your consideration)

Uhh is it safe to use soap on a cat? They lick themselves…

Cat shampoo is fine IIRC
