One of my favorite quotes is "I aimed for America's heart, but I hit it in the stomach."

"I can't believe that disgusting impoverished Lithuanian immigrant didn't wash his hands before making that sausage. He should be deported." - the average Amerikkkan reading The Jungle, apparently

It's a perfect example of how prole Americans are trained to think of themselves as consumers not workers. "Eww my sausage is contaminated, we gotta fix that." Instead of "People are losing their fingers? We gotta fix that."

Henry David Thoreau: I wanted to make the simplest burger possible, with my own hands. It is made with beans and Indian corn and molasses and costs 3 cents, compared to the 40 cents that a ground beef burger costs. What need do the legions of American citizens have for the slaughterhouse?

Nathaniel Hawthorne: You lift up the burger and look at the ketchup on the patty. It resembles a familiar letter, and this ignominious recognition fills you with inescapable guilt.

Mark Twain (subsumed into McDonalds hiring campaign): It's not every day that a red-blooded American boy gets to flip 100 burgers.

F. Scott Fitzgerald: We drove all day with our eyes fixed on the horizon, searching for a sign poking up that promised burgers.

Herman Melville: One day I will find it, the perfect cow for beef, and I will make it into my burger.
