...a toy is an object used for personal satisfaction, as opposed to a tool which serves an impersonal objective...tools can be toys, toys can be tools, and either term can be used metaphorically...
Anything used for play is a toy.

I'd say it refers to any item purchased specifically for fun or entertainment rather than for any kind of practical purpose
This implies that toys can't be homemade
Or that things initially obtained for a practical use can't also be used for recreation or amusement.
Good point! They absolutely could be homemade as long as the item in question is just for fun!
I disagree. The line between tool and toy blurs. It's strictly a tool if you only have it to accomplish work. It could be considered a toy if you add embellishments to it, or if you are toying with it in the moment.
A stick of dynamite could be a toy, if you are ~~brave~~ dumb enough.
A stick of dynamite could absolutely be considered a toy if you're only using it to blow up something for fun instead of something that actually needed to be blown up for some legitimate reason
Same for tools!
I'm glad we could come to an agreement ๐ ๐ค๐
