My cat is like that. She's terrified of the vacuum but is always nearby because as much as she's scares, she's even more curious.
Maybe she is keeping an eye out for you!

My kitty does it for me. He is terrified of the shower curtain but he will stay in the bathroom until I am out of the shower. Then he wants out again.
