And in the current condition of streaming video, it's a service problem AND a pricing problem. If there was a single service that had nearly every title available, that service could maybe be worth 30-40 ish a month. But instead now if you want access to all titles you have to subscribe to a ton of separate services, never know where to find what you're looking for, and would have to pay around a hundred bucks a month. So instead i pirate, where the cost is zero dollars a month and everything is always located in the same place.
Imagine paying to not own something and then being unable to watch because your device is unsupported. Whatever that means for a current web browser…
I'm in favor of being able to pay to access a library containing 99% of titles in existence, even though i don't "own" permanent access to them. If i had to pay a higher price to "own" each individual title then i would have access to VASTLY less media. But for that monthly payment it must offer access to 99% of titles in existence, and the price must be reasonable for the amount of entertainment value i actually derive from it. Spotify is a perfect example of a 99% complete library at a reasonable price. And yeah as you point out, the service must be available on all devices, like Spotify is.

Didn’t Netflix just have a massive earnings call recently? 25% increase in stock in 1 month after raising prices and cracking down on account sharing.

I have been a Netflix subscriber since 2004 and just canceled it today. I had their Ultra plan for many years but I just can’t justify it anymore. Pirating is now more convenient and I don’t have to worry about not being able to watch it when I want to.
I have a theory that the password crackdowns caused some people to cancel, but not for the reason you think. I posit that for some people, the only reason they subscribed is because they were sharing it with family and friends. Therefore, if they can't share the subscription, what's the point in subscribing?

They've maneuvered themselves to the point where they're just another cable to cut. I'm about to hop in my big ship and cut the cable holding it to the dock. It's the high seas for me!
As competition increases, price should decrease. Unless one of them increases price and doesn't suffer for it and then the rest get FOMO and follow suit.
I feel like the end of result of this is eventually these companies saying "ok I guess nobody is interested in streaming anymore" and bringing out something people want even less.
When I was younger and I seen the way storage was going. I envisioned a system where you buy a digital copy and have it for life. But you could still share you "dvd's" with your friends just like you could with ps2 saves.
The only way to own some 40 year old movie digitally for some reasonable price like a discount bin dvd is to illegally download it.
I paid for a long long time but I'm going back to stealing I guess. Going to be a pain in the ass but my media bill is like $200/mo.
Subscriptions numbers are verifiably up, though.
