I was just browsing a thread on c/nfl looking for new mods. There were multiple 12+ year Redditors there offering to help.

Got me wondering. There are 14,000 of us in this community. How many of us are ten year plus users who have just had enough?

Edit: I didn't expect this post to be as poignant as it became. There are so many of you... I can't reply to everyone. I'm an 11 year user and have modded something like 150 subs over the years. I'm really sad too, but I'm finding that lemmy has most of the content I'm looking for, just needs more comments.

The API was a big blow, but removing awards on past posts and deleting coin balances is really dumb.

7 years here. Glad I left reddit for lemmy. I will never sign up for a centralized social media platform again, I've learned my lesson.

Fuck u/spez.

12 years for me. Havent gotten back on since finding out about Lemmy. Reddit fonally becoming fully enshittified lead me to the fediverse, which actually gives me HOPE. I'm very happy to be here. I'm even happy to see the right wingers here, because if they de-federate from traditional social media they'll ALSO BE BETTER OFF and hopefully stop being activley manipulated for 20 minutes.

13 years, here

[-] JustWords@reddthat.com 2 points 2 years ago

Just logged in at Reddit to confirm--12 years.

And my whole homepage there is filled with posts about sex. I don't log in there for weeks and it's gone way down hill.

Would have been 12 years this month, I haven’t deleted my account yet but I haven’t been back since end of June. While I do miss some of my old communities, I loved Apollo and Alien Blue before that and won’t go back. I posted pretty frequently and most always from mobile. I’m working on deleting the old account here soon.

8 years here, 90% left

[-] Whulum@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

8 years for me. Cut my usage down by around 95% I'd say. Only when I need something specific do I go back

Honestly I don't mind as much as I thought I'd do

I'm one of 'em. Killing Sync (and every other awesome 3rd party client) was the straw that broke this camel's back.

[-] ApollosArrow@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

Almost to 10. 9yrs 6 months before I left.

[-] ArchmageAzor@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

I joined 2012. It's a weird feeling leaving it after so long.

[-] optissima@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

13 years user, and lemmy reminds me of year 1

[-] Ginrai@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

Well over 10 years. About 4 years ago found myself missing the "old" Reddit experience, lighthearted, tons of memes, silly, and interesting. Feels more like that on Lemmy.

[-] jeeva@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

13+ here, haven't gone to browse it since they announced the third party changes - despite, I think, my chosen app still working, I removed the shortcut from my home screen and it pretty much stopped me. Few days of awkward muscle memory tapping the area it used to be (embarrassing?)

I deleted my alt with 45k comment karma that was I think 14 years, my oldest account is a version of my actual name that I don’t want someone taking that is 16 years old, that I didn’t delete, but I did nuke all my comments.

I had to go and check. 11+ years it seems - oh how the time flies. I was pretty much a lurker so I didn't bother with cleaning up my history. I also never used Digg - I guess I've grown up during the period that Digg was sinking and Reddit gained it's popularity.

Yet it's weird how easily I could replace Reddit with Lemmy after such time. Sure, there isn't an Apollo replacement on iOS but to be honest, I don't currently even want one. Most of the communities have started migrating here as well so I'm not missing anything relevant after all.

My longest running account will be 10 years old in December.

[-] Lucidlethargy@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 years ago

I've all but stopped using Reddit. I was extremely active for well over a decade.

[-] minorsecond@lemm.ee 2 points 2 years ago

12 years of heavy activity here, I nuked my account 6 weeks or so ago.

[-] lymingseng@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

5y, I really miss Unexpected sub

[-] DaveFuckinMorgan@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

11 years. I want to view controversial content and I'm not feeling too optomistic about lemmy world either.

[-] fossilesque@mander.xyz 2 points 2 years ago

It's good to be on the old internet. 10+ years, 300k nuked karma. I still have my account to take care of some subs but the activity is here.

[-] zerkrazus@lemm.ee 2 points 2 years ago

My main account over there isn't that old, but I've been using the site off/on for probably at least that long. I mainly was a reader/lurker over there for years as I didn't really feel like posting as at the time almost everything I posted got downvoted for some reason. Then over time as I got older I cared less about that and started posting more. Last I checked I think my karma was 100,000-something.

[-] Mezzy@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

12 years. The couple times I have gone back since joining here I can't help but notice how toxic the comments are. Didn't notice it before... Must've been a boiling frog phenomenon .

Much more joyous here. I'm hoping that vibe stays around here for a little while.

Joined in 2008, left in 2023.. the only constant is change

[-] TheHottub@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

10+ years. Deleted my account, posts and comments. It was long and slow decision. It's just not the same reddit I feel in love with. Carma whoring, vanity, both far right and far left junk, bots (hate bots), the terrible UI... Finally, when I could no longer use RIF, that was it. I actually worked on a reddit API based app a few years ago and this really pissed me off on that level too.

[-] wtvr@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 years ago

15+ years here. I would login and check exactly but I don't wanna give em any traffic 😆

[-] kaotic@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

14 year account, I'm done with reddit.

[-] Rusky_900@reddthat.com 2 points 2 years ago

Not sure how long exactly, but probably more than 10 years. And I'm gone!

[-] magnolia_mayhem@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

I don't know. How long ago was 2015? ... Shit I'm old.

[-] Ricaz@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

My account is 13, but lurked a bit before that. Never installed the official app. Used RES for desktop, and Boost for mobile.
