Edit: From @ISolox@lemmy.world 's comments below, it seems these are free DLCs which you can download as soon as you start the game. So, they aren't removing any paid content, only free DLC.

A reminder that MHR (and others) is a fully priced game as a service.

Wow, downvotes. I’m a fan of MH licence, but still: The fact some content can be removed from a priced game have to be noticed.

The base game (to access these quests) is $40 for a brand new copy. It's only $20 if you get a used copy.

These DLCs event quests are also free to download.

Still sucks they are being removed, but these were minor free 3rd party event quests to begin with.

Although I don't like this either, I did see some misinformation going around in some other comments.

All of these quests that are being removed were free DLC event quests and did not cost any extra to play. It still sucks that it's being removed, but its not like people are losing content they paid for either.

If you really want to experience this content, the game is $20 from GameStop. You can download these quests basically as soon as you start the game.

If you can't afford it, emulation and the PC version both have very easily accessible save editors where you can unlock these quests/cosmetics if it's means that much to you.

Or just don't buy the game at all if that's too much extra work for you., I highly recommend it though if you can get it. Easily my most played game of 21-22 :)

Thanks for the info. I haven't played MH-Rise yet, so didn't know the details. I have updated the main post with the info that it's free.

Jeez Louise. I don’t play this game, but I’d be extremely angry if I paid for this, uninstalled the game to free up space, and then wanted to replay it for nostalgia purposes and couldn’t download all the content I paid for.

I’ve never seen this before, where you pay for DLC content and you can’t download it again. I’ve seen games get delisted on Steam but I can always access them again as they are tied to my account.

My first fear about the gaming Digital Rights Management model was when Ubisoft announced they’d be shutting down legacy activation servers a few years ago, and the DLC I purchased for my physical copy of Splinter Cell Blacklist Wii U would no longer be accessible. They backpedaled thankfully, but it’s an eye opener. I always thought buying physical would protect me, but it looks like this isn’t the case with companies like Ubisoft and whoever makes Monster Hunter.

I’m heavily evaluating if it’s even worth buying DLC for any game going forward, knowing that corporations can take it away from me. Perhaps we change the language from “Buy this game” to “Pay for a temporary License to access this game that you will never own”.

Although it still sucks it's being removed, these DLCs were all free event quests and did not cost extra.
