The way I usually do group stealth is to have everyone roll and the party is stealthy if at least half of them succeed at the check.
That's how the official rules do it.
That's a good way to do it. I used to let the leader to roll for everyone but that tends to let unstealthy parties off too easy.
I like in Pathfinder they have this as the Follow the Expert mechanic
A really quick 5e port of this is "if a character makes an ability check and has expertise in it, they may grant any creatures who are also making the check advantage on the same check".
That's why they invented pass without trace.
Ah, Pass Without Trace. A spell that ranks alongside Goodberry for outright negating entire types of challenges.
I may or may not have made my DM cry by playing a druid with those two spells in a survival campaign where the party was being hunted.
Blessing of the trickster can target any willing creature but yourself, so in reality it's on the paladin. Always. So the weak link here would actually the trickster cleric... but then what they actually use on themselves in pass without a trace, also affecting everyone.
C'mon... Plate wearers in a stealthy group are so iconic and still you mess up the meme by including the one combination where everyone is very stealthy, even the guy in the clanging metal.
I'm currently playing a trickery cleric 9 rogue 2 with a paladin and low Dex barbarian in the party and blessing of the trickster and pass without trace is absolutely my M.O. every time. If I'm saving spell slots I can still throw a guidance out too.
So? You want me to adventure naked? /jk
"I see no problems with that!" - The party's barbarian
I've been itching to play a dragonborn monk dubbed, "the golden god of the fist".
He would be somewhat of a nudist because of his belief that the physical form is perfection, and perfection must be shared with others to inspire them to seek out their own perfection.
He would have polished, radiant golden scales and a body builder's physique.
His main camp supplies would be polishing wax, and a buffing wheel.
The bard agrees.
The paladin can be the distraction.
I need this but instead of "paladin in full armor" I need "Zireael"
The solution is as follows: the entire party rolls against a DC (typically passive perception though it could just be opposed), and so long as half of the party (round up) succeeds, you are sufficiently stealthy. Realistic? Not necessarily, but it lets a stealthy player do something without having to go off on their own and get killed.
