I noticed it few days ago when the sky was clearer. Edit: oh just found out moonrise today was 10:05pm, so if your eastern horizon is clear, you'll see it. 🌝

The next full moon is similarly large, and since it's the second full moon in one calendar month, some people call it a "blue moon". Infographic here.

Oh didn't realise we are in supermoon period! And that blue moon at the end of this month thing is still screwing my brain rn.

The late moonrise definitely is a blessing. It looks so freaking huge when it's still low in the sky! Now that it's already high it's just meh

well, it's not much different there i guess.

Realistically the largest and smallest the moon can get is just 16% difference, and with the Moon averaging at 1/2 arc-degrees in the sky such variation is simply imperceivable to the naked eye.

Probably its the late moonrise. When it is still near the horizon, with silhouette of building around it, it looks freakishly huge! But once it is high in the sky, it really just meh.

Yeah, but perspective matters. It looks big with that +16% and being low on the horizon

Damn my caveman eyeballs! Cool explanation though, thanks!

Perspective can be a flawed lens
