How is this a meme?

Edit: aha! As senae linked me Below it is an established meme, just a relatively obscure one that I never encountered before.

I really was asking, btw. While I am fond of a bit of good spirited pedantry, it ain't like I'm a meme master :)

Lemmy is thirsty for content. Not very discriminate right now.

[-] Pregnenolone@lemmy.world 6 points 2 years ago

I mean, it is if you were aware of the relevant Instagram trend that was popular for three-four months in 2016

[-] Pratai@lemmy.ca 5 points 2 years ago

All it takes is a random picture now.

[-] Steve@startrek.website 9 points 2 years ago

Welcome back to r/funny

[-] southsamurai@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 years ago

That's why I asked lol. Most of them, I can either tell it's just a funny picture and move on, or otherwise accept that fact. But this kinda looked like a format of some kind, like it had some underlying awareness assumed, which meant OP was likely "memeing in good faith" and I just didn't know what the meme was.

In 2009, the Seattle Times asked Costco co-founder (and then-CEO) Jim Sinegal, "If [the price of the hot dog] ever goes up, what will it mean?" Sinegal replied, "That I'm dead."

[-] PaupersSerenade@sh.itjust.works 8 points 2 years ago

The quote I always heard was;

The founder of Costco told a CEO who wanted to raise the prices on Costco's hot dogs: "If you raise the effing hot dog, I will kill you. Figure it out."

I just love the finality of it

[-] FartsWithAnAccent@lemmy.world 9 points 2 years ago

"Welcome to Costco. I love you."

[-] argh_another_username@lemmy.ca 7 points 2 years ago

So sad they discontinued the chicken wings. It was sooo good.

[-] possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip 7 points 2 years ago

Those are some fingers if I ever saw some.

[-] arin@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

[-] jcs@lemmy.world 6 points 2 years ago

Turkey pesto sandwiches and combo pizzas - this must be a pre-pandemic photo.

[-] grue@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

And Italian sausages, too.

[-] Zannsolo@lemmy.world 5 points 2 years ago

My wife whenever we go to Costco

[-] doggle@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 2 years ago

I miss those turkey pesto sandwiches...

[-] corytheboyd@kbin.social 5 points 2 years ago

I go to Costco, I get hot dog. This is the way.

[-] LemmyKnowsBest@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago

"All beef hot dog?" Has it always been that way? I thought hot dogs were a pig product.

[-] ramenshaman@lemmy.world 5 points 2 years ago

The ones from Costco have always been beef.

Fuck I love Costco.

[-] Zibitee@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

I don't always want to eat a hot dog, but I'm constantly reminded that all good things must come to an end. When costco's CEO's gone, so will the $1.50 hot dogs. So for now, I buy one anyway because in another 5-10 years, we might not have it anymore.

[-] IanSomnia@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

The casings can be pig intestine. The meat itself is not pig.

[-] doggle@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 2 years ago

Most are either beef or chicken afaik, but it depends on the particular brand

[-] FeelzGoodMan420@eviltoast.org 1 points 2 years ago

Normal hot dogs are always beef. The "100% beef" is just marketing bullshit since technically a hot dog can be any meat.

[-] interolivary@beehaw.org 4 points 2 years ago

I think I'm too Finnish to understand this joke 😅 Can somebody explain it to me please?

[-] seahorse@midwest.social 6 points 2 years ago

Costco is a wholesale store commonly found in US cities. They sell really cheap food and are famous for their cheap as dirt hot dogs that cost $1.50.

[-] Zelaf@sopuli.xyz 1 points 2 years ago

Basically Biltema Körv

[-] ReCursing@kbin.social 3 points 2 years ago

You know I got that dog in me

Ah yes, Vurt by Jeff Noon

[-] LemmyKnowsBest@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

LOL couldn't even bother to photoshop the shadows off of them that were cast by the bright sun in the original photo from their outdoor adventure in a picturesque landscape.

[-] calabast@lemm.ee 6 points 2 years ago

I mean we already know it's fake, they did it for the funny idea of the image. Why do many photoshop when few photoshop do trick?

[-] LemmyKnowsBest@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

It is funny

[-] Leeks@kbin.social 1 points 2 years ago

Wait, does your Costco really have the Al Pastor Salad? I miss that salad!

[-] Overzeetop@sopuli.xyz 1 points 2 years ago

Best 200 (225?) Icelandic Kr I spent on the island.

[-] Blackmist@feddit.uk 0 points 2 years ago

Beef hotdogs just taste wrong. Go for their pizza slices instead.

Also this photo is fake because it doesn't have a 30 minute queue snaking around the eating area.

[-] FeelzGoodMan420@eviltoast.org 5 points 2 years ago

Huh? Beef hotdogs taste wrong? The fuck you talkin about? Costco is famous for their cheap ass beef hotdogs.

[-] Blackmist@feddit.uk -2 points 2 years ago

Sausages should be pork. Burgers should be beef.

This is a hill I'm happy to die on.

[-] FeelzGoodMan420@eviltoast.org 2 points 2 years ago

Traditional hot dogs have NEVER been pork. Idk what planet you live on lol.

[-] Tavarin@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 years ago

No, hotdogs have traditionally been beef. And they taste great.
