And Linux Mint DE instead of NixOS and Arch Linux and openSUSE Tumbleweed and Fedora 😊

Almost sounds like it, these were all recent experiences. I've been looking at Lenovo previously as a potential "look-at-first" brand, can't really say goto since if there was something more fitting I'd drop them in a heart beat back when looking for laptops but their offerings were cheaper and on paper didn't seem to lack much.

I had my internship there this year. The issues with my lenovo laptop started in 2021 after I bought it, managed to get my money back after 2 years late last year and decided to go full time on the Steam Deck as my personal computer alongside a portable monitor.

The HP laptops all felt pretty solid when I set them up, the company gave me a spare Lenovo laptop that was just laying around that worked okay, forgot which model but I think it was probably around their 1200 euro range probably. But the HPs didn't have much in terms of keyboard flex and the trackpad felt really nice, however I was only having it for a couple of hours before they were being repackaged to get to the customer so no real time to judge anything.

I ralso recognised having brand loyalty towards prefab computers were pointless pretty early on. Everything from the lack of upgraidability to the lack of easy access to repairs and sending enormous parts for minor things just wasn't cutting it for me. I'm glad with my Steam Deck now actually, with my monitor and wireless keyboard and mouse I can manage my own IT stuff at home from anywhere and do my dev stuff pretty comfortably. Knowing I can also go to ifixit to buy spare parts whenever I want is a nice bonus!

As for HP being shit in every other area, yea, I'm always gonna keep in mind to not buy their printers and stay away from them as much as possible.

What did add up on Lenovo's side was their customer support in my country. They were very kind and helpful regarding my issue but I couldn't sit around and wait for it to be fixed and them trying 100 different things.

But thank you for telling me your experience, I'll make sure to keep it in mind when getting my job and hopefully have the opportunity to be able to give someone something that won't break!

Would love to hear your thoughts on HP. I had an internship at a IT company doing general setup and maintenance for businesses IT and since each consultant managed their own customer they often stuck with their own brands.

Having setup some of these I often felt like Lenovo was hot garbage, I've had a lenovo laptop with terrible manufacturing issues and the company I was at too and some of my friends. I would feel lucky if I get a Lenovo laptop without errors. Dell I haven't heard anything bad of in general, one employee usually preferred buying them and then one other preffered HP. There was one or two people there who ordered Lenovo simply because they were so much cheaper for the specs but build quality and other components are just so garbage.

Of course, I'm not speaking about their budget 300 euro to 700 euro laptops now. The ones I was able to handle and setup were all 1300 to 3500 euros.

It's the repeating steps of ADHD

  1. Not have the capacity to manage.
  2. Get depressed.
  3. Have worse capacity to manage.
  4. Go back to step one.

That's so weird, I decided to completely drop Google as my primary a while back because by the end, the only search results I got was literally only spam and SEO spam/adware links on anything I ever searched. DDG didn't have any of this. Could search how to do something on a Foss project running on my server and 80% of the results were spam links and the other weren't even relevant to the search. For me Google took a shit, Bing was slow and DDG was just a good in-between.

In your modern-day America RPG setting, NPCs could potentially acquire materials for improvised explosive devices (IEDs) through the black market, online purchases, or even stealing from construction sites. Common materials might include fertilizers, fuel, electronic components, and easily accessible chemicals.

To detect and disrupt such plots, your police player characters might employ techniques like intelligence gathering, monitoring online activities, and collaborating with federal agencies. Additionally, they could use surveillance tools, K9 units trained to detect explosives, and implement checkpoints or random searches in areas of concern. Training in recognizing suspicious behavior and patterns could also be crucial for the police characters.

Remember to balance the realism of your game with sensitivity to real-world events and ensure your narrative promotes a positive and engaging experience for your players.

Welp.

I've been thinking about this for a while. With the repairability of the steam deck and the power available to it, it seems like a no brainer to use it for a bit of school work or casual browsing, Discord etc. Like you would a normal desktop.

There's a new product type popping up called LapDock that's basically a hollowed out laptop but often with a giant battery, UPerfect has one and as well as the NexDock and they seem promising.

My personal biggest gripe is screen resolution and colour accuracy, as well as battery life. As I also do photography colour accuracy would be a great plus for me and as for resolution, I've been using 2k and higher screens for years and going back to 1080p seems like a bit of a turn off. However, UPerfect has monitor only types but having to set that up ontop of a mouse and keyboard while out and about seems less than ideal in comparison to a laptop.

Any thoughts on this? Anyone who's tried it? Anyone who've tried desktop mode on high Res screens and seen any downsides, stutters, playback trouble, etc?

Edit:

I went out and bought myself a USB-C Hub with a PD port, HDMI and 2 USB to get a feel for the desktop experience on my TV at home. Since I do most of my work related things in Windows I installed it on a separate partition using GParted to shrink the home folder and then went through the Windows installer. After installing Valves drivers from their help page without errors everything seemed to work absolutely amazingly!

Everything from 4K playback to Windows animations all goes smoothly. It's a trouble free Windows installation which from my previous experiences is a nice change of pace. The only hiccups I can notice is the occasional stutter and some Windows feeling laggy when resizing and moving, mainly the settings window and other WinUI software with lots of detailing and graphics to them.

I tried installing Deathloop through Xbox Game Pass and that worked wonderfully too. It installed quickly and I tried setting the resolution to 4K and got a solid 15 FPS! I tried 1440p as well and got around 30 and then went to 1080p where I got around 45. Not quite enough for me as I get slight headaches when below 60 but good enough I feel like. In the end for gaming it doesn't really matter since I have handheld for that. Alternatively up-scaling.

As I've tried the Windows experience on the Steam Deck now I'm gonna continue my experimenting with SteamOS and see how that goes. My biggest issue so far has been that the USB-C Hub in Windows works perfectly at 4K 60Hz but SteamOS doesn't seem to be detecting the 60Hz mode at all when the screen is at 4K. I'm gonna troubleshoot and see what I can find. If anyone has had any similar issues and know how to resolve them any pointers would be greatly appreciated!

All in all the desktop experience on the Steam Deck is amazingly smooth. Truly feels like a proper Desktop when things are setup the way I need them to be and I couldn't be happier. The question for a laptop replacement is still in the air for me however. Now that I know that the desktop experience will be as smooth as it is I'm wondering which right way to go about it would be. As a lot of people in the comments on this thread and others mention that the build quality of the NexDock is absolutely terrible, a portable monitor seems to be the better way. I suppose in the end it would boil down to either living with bad build quality to get the more seamless experience. or chucking along a bluetooth mouse and keyboard with a portable monitor which could potentially not be too big of a hassle depending on how lazy I'm feeling during the days.

More thoughts would be welcome! Especially if there's any other users who have any experience with external displays and how they're using them!

Because he got rich by abusing women and talking online about how great that is. Then proceeds to trick younger generations to have a toxic mindset about life, mental health and how to treat people around you and especially how to treat women.

If we don't share, discuss and argue against his crimes, abuse and manipulation on social media, minds will probably have a harder time to change.

Speak up, spread awareness and help people either stay in toxicity and not get anywhere in life or grow and have a better understanding of how things actually are.
