Hey folks!

Lemmy 0.19 was released this week! It brings a bunch of awesome new features, so I hope you are all willing to forgive some downtime in order to upgrade to this latest version.

Unfortunately some migration will be necessary as part of this upgrade, so it might take a while, but I will try to keep it as short as possible.

I hope you are all having a great holiday period, and I will see you soon in 0.19!

Edit: Update complete!

Welcome to 0.19! Unfortunately, the upgrade took somewhat longer than usual, but I believe everything is in order now. As always, please let me know if you notice anything strange, and have fun!

Using relative time to display timezone-agnostic date is brilliant lol

[-] noodlejetski@lemm.ee 13 points 2 years ago

it used to be a standard procedure on reddit.

I've never seen Reddit upgrade their Lemmy version 🤔

Thank you, man! I was curious about your absence in the last 2-3 months, but figured there is not really much to do until the BIG upgrade. Thanks for being here, being you! Awesome admin, awesome instance! Thanks for all your work!

[-] HurlingDurling@lemm.ee 15 points 2 years ago

FYI, if anyone had 2fa it will be disabled after this upgrade and you'll have to do it again.

[-] ChiefSinner@lemm.ee 13 points 2 years ago

Thanks for all the hard work you all do!

PSA For lemm.ee users who cannot sign in and are getting messages similar to "logged in (green)" "incorrect credentials (red)" back to back when trying to sign in:

  • Clear your browsers cache for lemm.ee
  • Try to sign in again

Not sure if this is widespread but it worked for me.

Seems like a lot of servers are upgrading today.

[-] magnor@lemmy.magnor.ovh 3 points 2 years ago

Well, the update came out on Friday so that tracks. Besides, this update comes with a whole db shake up (took about 30min on my one user instance) so it makes sense to do it over the week end.

Keep calm and lemm.ee on.

Time for another donation!

Question: will this affect our ability to upload pictures?

I'll be in bed, upgrade away.

[-] hellequin67@lemm.ee 9 points 2 years ago

Since the upgrade to v19 I've noticed the all applications and web site seem to be very very slow to initially launch and return subscription and user info.

This is happening in both Voyager app, Thunder, web site default and web alexandrite.

Is anyone else experiencing similar issues?

[-] aeharding@lemmy.world 5 points 2 years ago

Lemmy 0.19 has some perf issues, hopefully resolved soon

[-] PlasmaDistortion@lemm.ee 3 points 2 years ago

Yes, I am seeing it across multiple Lemmy apps as well. It has made it virtually unusable for me.

[-] Navarian@lemm.ee 9 points 2 years ago

Look forward to a lot of the features this will bring, thanks.

Voting on a post appears to no longer count as "read", and thus is not filtering from feed. Intended? Or am I doing it wrong?

Still very excited for this upgrade, thank you!

edit: I guess on the plus side, it looks like it's not "just me", so maybe there's a bug they're working on.

[-] H4mi@lemm.ee 3 points 2 years ago

My feed is just a bunch of already read stuff now, I don’t know how to refresh anymore :(

Great stuff, thanks for all your hard work!

[-] aaaaaaadjsf@hexbear.net 8 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

That's cool, hope all goes well with the upgrade! Same to any other servers upgrading today.

[-] GrayBackgroundMusic@lemm.ee 7 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Still seeing "read" posts, even thought "show read posts" is unchecked. This didn't happen in 0.18.

[-] rockerface@lemm.ee 4 points 2 years ago

Having the same issue here, both in the web interface and in Jerboa on Android

[-] CraigeryTheKid@lemm.ee 3 points 2 years ago

I also still have that issue, said the same further down. Can't seem to find if this is an official bug/issue or not.

Thank you admin for your service.

[-] Grimm@lemm.ee 6 points 2 years ago

This is the perfect Christmas gift and the new upgrade looks great! Excited to see Lemmy continue growing. It’s really helped improve my relationship with social media and cut back on my doomscrolling while encouraging me to participate and break out of my lurker shell.

[-] ech@lemm.ee 4 points 2 years ago

Thanks for the warning, and thanks for keeping the instance up to date! Much appreciated.

[-] mathmaniac43@lemm.ee 4 points 2 years ago

After the lemm.ee server upgrade (excited!), when I scroll past the first loaded Subscribed "page" in the Jerboa app, it provides a "Posts failed loading, retry" message. It seems to dynamically load multiple pages for "Local" and "All" just fine. I have no idea if this is a server/lemm.ee or client/Jerboa issue, just wanted to see if anyone else has seen a similar problem or has ideas to fix. Thanks.
