Probably not even increased profits overall, specifically short-term profits.
Yep and that's all that they care about. When the company's fortunes start to turn the execs will jump out with their golden parachute and not give a fuck.
Corporations have always wanted to only push the 'profits only' button ... like a crack addict with a single minded focus, it was everyone else, socially minded politicians, regulators, advocates, unions, workers that all ganged up on the profit crack addict to keep them from pushing that button .... they slowly removed all those people that tried to control the profit crack addict and now there are not many left ... so the profit crack addict gets to have as much of what they want without any control.
What do you expect when you enshrine in law, that corporations are legally obligated to do everything they can increase profits.
You could also do (lower prices) (better quality) and have consumers slapping the red button. People love that Walmart trash. Fill a whole house with garbage they don’t really need.
The prices they paid for that high quality stuff 50+yrs ago would make you gag. Of course grandmas iron still works she paid the equivalent of $150 for it.
