Leisure Suit Larry was one of my earliest PC memories. I had to teach myself DOS to get it to run. That curiosity kickstarted a career.
In a time where the questions they used for age verification could not be quickly looked up on the internet.
My brothers and I would ask our parents in the other room who thought we were playing a trivia game. Eventually we memorized most/all of the answers.
Good memories!
My mother played this game with us..it was hilarious, a bonding experience and a way to learn English.
TIL there was a VGA version.
What was the non-vga version? Green screen?
Four colour CGA version I think. Probably EGA as well but I only had CGA.
It was pretty good too. It used the LSL5 user interface, which is a lot less “read my mind” about the puzzles.
Of course, I still remember the solution from the old version, that also helps.
Another notable game that got a vga remake was quest for glory/hero’s quest. That too was pretty good.
Closest thing we have to that era is Summertime Saga (free game in development, just Google). I wish there was more creators like that because that guy making SS is raking it in on Patreon. Shows how much interest there is on an unknown game.
Now that's an aesthetic.
