I end up with bigger problems where after I type a comment, then wanna go back and change a word, Jerboa gets totally confused and wants to like erase the first words or random words in my comment.

Also it breaks text selection for some reason. Normally I double tap a word to select it, but in Jerboa (and only in it), I have to long press the word instead, which is more difficult since that can get picked up as trying to drag the cursor.

I'll be honest, I've noticed weird issues with various Android keyboard apps under various other apps lately as well.

It got so bad for me, I uninstalled my keyboard app updates to go back to the assumed stable built-in GBoard app, and even that is now goofing up in YouTube.

I don't even think it's a Jerboa specific issue.

The word selection is definitely Jerboa-specific for me. If I double tap a word in any other app's free text fields, it selects the word. Not so in Jerboa.

My usage case can't seem to allow edits. Like, it I try to move the text cursor around and then try to paste a link or anything for that matter, it starts overwriting the words at the beginning of my post.

Maybe its an android issue. This is the only app I regularly type in.

Jerboa uses Jetpack Compose toolkit, instead of traditional Views approach. It is not mature yet and the source of many of these problems you are experiencing. It works well with Gboard but not so much with other keyboards.

Depends on your keyboard

I use the default Samsung keyboard (only because of s-pen) and swype typing and its autocorrect are atrocious

I used to use gboard and the autocorrect and swype typing for that were really good.

Might just dump it and go back to gboard

I've been using SwiftKey forever. It's autocorrect is much better. And if you're willing to go back to Google then you probably don't care that it's MS.

Based on previous posts, Jerboa have problem with Android's native virtual keyboard. Are u using the native one or google keyboard?

[-] Blamemeta@lemm.ee 2 points 2 years ago

I've swapped between the native and Hacker's keyboard. Both have problems

[-] over_clox@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

Damn, really? I have the Hacker's Keyboard app too and almost considered switching to that to test things out, but like oof...

It's all a plot to get us to use their keyboard

I hate that you can't seem to double tap a word to highlight it like anywhere else on my phone. I can only long press

Jerboa is a native-android client for Lemmy, built using the native android framework, Jetpack Compose.

Warning: You can submit issues, but between Lemmy and lemmy-ui, I probably won't have too much time to work on them. Learn jetpack compose like I did if you want to help make this app better.
