All the bios just say is that he was born in Upstate New York, and lived a majority of his life in San Francisco.

The reason I'm asking, is because I came up with an idea to do some sightseeing: visit the birth places of Star Trek characters.

I started to do some research, and discovered that there isn't a concrete hometown for Captain Archer. Only that he was born in Upstate New York.

So, what city do you think it is? If I were to guess, I would say Syracuse, or Ticonderoga.

We do know that Archer is probably from Utica, or at least not from Albany, given that he's never seen using the phrase "steamed hams" to refer to hamburgers.

“Computer: two steamed hams, hot.”

Computer terminal lights on fire

Yes I know replicators weren’t available in Archer’s time, but still, it would be a fun scene.

"Good lord, what is happening in there?"

"Aurora Borealis."

"Aurora Borealis? During this shift, on this stardate, in this part of the quadrant, localized entirely within your holodeck simulation of the NX-01?"

"Yes!"

"May I see it?"

"...Computer, end program."

Ticonderago is a fine ship name anyway, and the space station in Starship Troopers is also called that. You might want to pass by even if you don't think Archer was born there

Absolutely! Tocinderoga has the TOS set replica. I'd love to check it out!

Upstate wouldnt have to be a city at all. Could be a town, hamlet village, unincorporated land, state park. Archer was young enough to have been around while earth was still rebuilding in theory.

Upstate itself is also a very general location for the state. It's most commonly used by people from the NYC metro area to refer to pretty much anything north of the bronx. This means upstate could in theory refer to anything from Westchester or Rockland county, to Watertown, to Niagara falls(though dont tell a western new yorker theyre from upstate they'll throw a fit).

I am a Western New Yorker, and I've already thrown a fit.

Yeah, he's got to be from Potsdam

Given Archer's test pilot background, I'd like to think he was from Hammondsport, the hometown of Glenn Curtiss.

Honestly, not bad choices.

His dad was a scientist developing the Warp 5 engine, so I'd guess somewhere which either has a major STEM university or a research lab. Some options would include: Ithaca- Cornell University Rochester- Rochester Institute of Technology Rome- US Air Force Rome Lab Syracuse - Syracuse University

[-] RHTeebs@startrek.website 1 points 1 year ago

Those are some pretty solid options. I like the idea of Ithaca. Cornell is a good school. Plus, it would be weird if Captain Archer had a Rochester accent

Rick Berman was the executive producer on Enterprise. Given that he was born-and-raised in New York City, it’s possible that the answer is, like, Westchester.

I mean, that's a fine destination anyway, given that it's the home of the Xavier School for the Gifted.

Upstate could be any where. What kind of town was it? Farm, actual city? Small town?

[-] Zoboomafoo@yiffit.net 2 points 1 year ago

If you're going to be visiting a potential birthplace for Archer, I'd have to say he grew up in Watkins Glen, if only because the state park there is beautiful

It sure is! Been there many times. However, I'm a sucker for Letchworth.
