Wish I was there! Just another day working in the sewers here...

[-] LazaroFilm@lemmy.world 134 points 9 months ago

Wow! I think we’re in the same building! I’m just on the floor above!

[-] Kecessa@sh.itjust.works 14 points 9 months ago

Oh man I had forgotten that one!

[-] naevaTheRat@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 9 months ago

You did WHAT?

[-] CascadianGiraffe@lemmy.world 1 points 9 months ago

I might still have that one in my box of old software.

The best screensaver ever conceived

[-] Cosmicomical@lemmy.world -4 points 9 months ago

You keep repeating that word, I don't think it means what you think it means

[-] AnxiousDuck@feddit.it 2 points 9 months ago

Sorry, English is not my first language. What do you mean?

[-] Cosmicomical@lemmy.world 3 points 9 months ago

Ah sorry it's just a joke based on a quote from the movie "Princess Bride" where a character keeps using "unconceivable" to mean "incredible". At this point the sentence is almost a meme.

So jealous, wish I lived near the beach. Instead all I have is this stupid field.

[-] PopShark@lemmy.world 11 points 9 months ago

Looks blissful though

[-] randomsnark@lemmy.ml 74 points 9 months ago

I know the joke is that that's literally the same file from windows, and also the person tweeting it probably doesn't live in the golden bay area (near Nelson, New zealand), but people really can just go for a walk and take a photo at that spot. It won't look like this though unless you have a professional camera with a wide angle lens, because the cave isn't very deep and it's hard to get far enough back to get a framing anything like this, especially with the way the roof slopes down at the back. You gotta really crouch and cram yourself back in there, and even then it won't look quite right.

It's Wharariki Beach, specifically.

For a second, I thought all this information was coming from a random shark. It made sense.

[-] chicken@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 9 months ago

What about a phone with panorama mode

[-] randomsnark@lemmy.ml 4 points 9 months ago

I guess that would help you get all the edges of the cave in, including the little rocks at the left of frame that I seem to recall were the tricky bit, but iirc without a special lens the ratio of cave mouth to middlingly-distant islands/rocks looks off too (the rocks take up a lot less of the cave mouth than you'd expect). I think that's what the issue was anyway, it's been years since I was there and I don't have my old phone to check the photos as a reference point. I know we didn't try panorama mode but I don't think it would have solved the issues with proportions/composition.

You can still get some neat pictures there but I recall it being impossible (for whatever reason) to exactly replicate the composition of this one with a regular phone, even with the original as a reference and considerable effort.

[-] Sheeple@lemmy.world 10 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

Nooo I swear this isn't plagiarized from Microsoft don't you see it's totally different? See? The resolution is different and the hue is too! This image has rounded borders yeah it's totally original!

[-] Kiosade@lemmy.ca 2 points 9 months ago

I don’t know, but I’m sure there’s a Liftmunk statue awaiting me there.

[-] OpenStars@startrek.website 33 points 9 months ago

Hey guys I just ah...

Yeah I'm going to be honest, I think I might have gotten this somewhere off the internet? :-P

Well, I do need a bit of help getting back to my home plan- uh oh I mean no, howdy fellow earth stranger! :-P

[-] Possible_EmuWrangler@lemmy.world 2 points 9 months ago

I can't help myself, but I think I've got a spare hitchikers guide lying around here I can let you have. You can also have a towel if you want one.

[-] jbk@discuss.tchncs.de 26 points 9 months ago

I've seen this picture so often, it doesn't even look like a regular photo taken with a camera to me.

[-] kamenlady@lemmy.world 22 points 9 months ago

I too went on a walk today and happened to pass by this nice spot. So, i took this beautiful picture.

[-] walter_wiggles@lemmy.nz 5 points 9 months ago

I totally believe both of you were actually in the places these photos were taken.

[-] niktemadur@lemmy.world 3 points 9 months ago

Do you happen to live in Scandinavia, by any chance? Because I know a couple of Vikings there, maybe you know them too.

[-] SakuraCosmos@programming.dev 18 points 9 months ago

Working on computing is hell. Because I've had to flash images into drives so many times that seeing this background gives me the most negative emotions possible.

[-] TheBat@lemmy.world 11 points 9 months ago

Went on a walk today, took this nice picture

[-] ObsidianZed@lemmy.world 10 points 9 months ago

One day working on Helpdesk, we (not me) had a call come in that asked where Microsoft got their pictures for their lock screens and they expected a real answer.

Someone with more patience than the rest of us found it and did eventually shared it. Gotta love the internal Google hotline.

Im sure this was always intended as a joke, but I've legitimately had people send me "their" photos/songs/videos claiming to have made it themselves, only to find the thing later in every day.

The last one was some techno Pikachu song that a friend of mine tried to pass of as their own, but I had heard it years ago on YouTube for a shitty call of duty montage.

Now they're talented enough and the song was shitty enough that I believed they made it themselves, since they have the equipment to do so. But yeah... I've already heard it bruh

Did it take you three tries to correctly exit the cave?
