Thunder is the closest IMO. I actually use Liftoff as a backup to Thunder as my main app, because they kinda feel similar.
I've been using Thunder for about a month now and I really like it. I wish it supported a few more image sites opening directly in the app instead of browser, similar to Sync.
I've installed thunder next to summit. Both look the same, both feel almostbthe same, but a tad different.
Not sure what landscape features you're looking for, but I've been pretty happy with Voyager. I switched from liftoff/jerboa after lemmy.ml took the 0.19 update and they broke. It's been good enough that I think even if the others hadn't broken, I'd still choose Voyager over them.
I use my 8" Samsung tab S2 for reading and responding. When in portrait the keyboard is to small, in landscape the keyboard I use (Hacker's keyboard) is perfect.
Also, when you've seen more then half of a century, eyes and hands suffer from wear a tad.
Same story here. Came from Jerboa, swapped after 0.19 broke it. It took some time getting used to, but Voyager works well for me now.
I went from Liftoff to a few others, but I'm really feeling at home in Summit.
It's pretty good as is and the dev is very responsive and updates fairly often with improvements and keeps an ongoing roadmap of future updates.
Connect was good and better looking then Liftoff or Summit, but I post every day and make some really long posts, and Summit just has awesome features and a pretty good workflow for that.
Boost has finally fixed its post UI to be useful. I used this for Reddit, so I originally started on Liftoff for Lemmy since I expected it to be a Boost copycat.
Sync was ok but not for me.
Landscape works in Summit, and I run in Dark Mode. Says it supports multiple accounts, but I haven't tried, I spend all my time on one instance anymore.
Had a ton of settings and everything is pretty customizable. I'm very happy here after 5 months on Liftoff.
I'm currently trying Summit and it looks very familliar. Testing it.
Connect is great. Easy to use too.
Wait, what's happening? I'm using liftoff and obviously out of the loop.
Dev hasn't posted in 4 months, I think he had twins, so he's off enjoying that.
Without being around to keep the app working as Lemmy updates, it's gonna stop working one day.
Lemmy 0.19 sounds like a big update and has a lot of new features that a non updated app won't be able to handle, hence today's announcement by the Lemmy.World crew why they've been waiting so long to roll it out since they're the biggest instance and don't wanna catch users by surprise having apps not work or major problems pop up.
That's my understanding of the situation anyway. Some details me be not exactly right, but close enough.
Oh, right on, thanks for the info. Guess I'll go see what jerboa is like nowadays
Good for him and his twins, but it's a shame. I've tried lots of different lemmy apps and haven't liked any of them except liftoff so far...
It took me a lot of testing apps, but I find Connect or Boost best for lurking, as I find them the prettiest UI.
Summit I love for posting due to having the best feature set, and the UI is there with the best of them as far as customizations, but I just can't get it to look quite as polished as Connect or Boost.
Sync I kept around for a while to, but it didn't have the feel I was used to with Liftoff.
Hasn't been updated since the summer, and doesn't work with versions 0.19 of lemmy or newer. I heard the dev had twins, which yeah fair enough take all the time off your open source lemmy app.
Ok, thanks to tips I've installed both summit and thunder. I like both, but they feel both a tad different.
- I like the message list of thunder slightly better then the one in summit
- I like the reply method of summit a tad better then the one in thunder
Both will stay and be tested. Thanks for the tips and I'll continue testing and see what will be my main reader/posting app.
I don’t know Liftoff, so can’t’ compare but I am using Mlem. I don’t know if it is a good app or not but It has all the functionalities you asked for. Changing from account is quite easy: one slice and tap and it is done.
I used liftoff and moved to thunder when my instance moved to 0.19.
I changed some settings to my liking and now I'm used to it. It isn't a drop in replacement but is okay. It works in landscape mode and has a dark mode and almoled dark mode.
I used to use Liftoff, I changed to Jerboa when my instance upgraded to 0.19.
It has dark mode, landscape, and support for multiple accounts. It's open-source if that's the kind of thing that tickles your fancy. Also, it's by the same dev as lemmy itself so compatibility shouldn't be an issue going forward.
I actually like liftoff.. tried jerboa based on open source / non monetization principles - thanks for the tip
Am I the only one using Eternity here? https://codeberg.org/Bazsalanszky/Eternity
Yeah, it runs great in landscape. I used Infinity when I was still on Reddit but because Eternity didn't come fast enough, I'm using Voyager now.
I use it.
I've found myself liking Eternity after giving up on liftoff :) Though to be fair, I was looking for different things in a Lemmy app than what you are looking for rn
I find it odd that you like Liftoff but not Boost as I found them to be rather similar.
I didn't like Boost that much but Sync really did it for me. Seems like the best client to me.
Somebody downvoted you... I didn't think the sync hate was a thing yet, anyway, Sync is a damn beauty, it handles the very aggressive ram management of android very well, for me (and for many many more aspects) I think Sync is the best app for Reddit and Lemmy, and maybe the best app I have ever used on Android LMAO.
While I agree (I paid for it on Reddit and Lemmy), the dev does disappear for stretches of time, like now. When my main instance updates to 0.19, I expect things will break in Sync as it hasn't been updated since the release of 0.19.
That said, I'm using Sync to post this, so…🤷🏻♂️
My instance is using the latest Lemmy version and nothing broke for me, if any I don't have the new sort types, if I want to use them I usually head to Voyager, sadly I didn't find the new sort types very interesting, or maybe I need to browse them more hah.
I do agree that if he is charging for something he should be more present with their users though, but I'm pretty sure if something critical happened he would be on it ASAP, granted I don't know how active he is in his Discord server or on GitHub.
I have boost and hate it's interface.
What would you change?
I'm also still on liftoff, and I really like it. I guess I'll have to try each of the ones listed here, but definitely gonna also keep liftoff in case the dev manages to find the time to catch back up at some point.
The current TestFlight build of Memmy is great.
Sync.
