So even a well-received game isn't enough to save people's jobs now. Ever-glowing news from the shitfest that is the gaming industry. I can understand the point of teams downsizing once a big release is out but let's be honest here, it's not like SEGA won't immediately be starting work on yet another Yakuza game.

I don't know what the hell started this trend of reporting on video game employee layoffs, but this really isn't nothing new. The video game industry has had more churn and turnover than a lot of other industries. And this one's really reaching, worried about 61 people getting laid off in a company with 3,500 people.
It's to satisfy the algorithms on social platforms. They work the same way ads do. You look at one layoff article and the algos want to feed you more, which in turn drives traffic for your outlet.
It's like all these companies see other companies fire people to pad shareholder wealth and just fall in line.
The gaming industry needs to unionize.
