If the public is going to pay them for a product via tax write offs, a condition should be the final product being entered into public domain. It wouldn't be hard to alter the law to allow for protections of individual ip elements while giving up rights to the product itself.

Quite frankly, I think if for any other reason to prove it exists. Is there a Coyote v Acme movie, or did you pay a few actors for a day to shoot a few scenes to pretend there is?

What seems particularly evil to me is the effect it has on resumes of the actors, artists, musicians, etc. -- they now have nothing concrete to point to for an entire block of their careers, if they can't point to a finished product.

And the point about destroying series just to deny workers their union residuals... wow.

Well, if I had any urges to watch recent movies or TV, I sure don't now. F these money-grubbing vampires. Most of the writing is now so formulaic and tepid anyhow...

Absolutely 100% this pisses me off most

Just wait till LLMs are churning out the majority of content 😶

Batgirl was one thing.... That was honestly probably going to be horrible? It's still bullshit that they shelved it but whatever.

There's literal fucking hype for this movie! A fun concept! Names that draw in audiences through star power alone!

Not to mention that the people who worked to make the film will not be credited for the work they did (or the quality of it, for that matter)

can you explain this gap in your resume?

WB is ran by fucking cunts.

"Heh, they sure are. Welcome to Fox, where nothing can possiblie go wrong."

Yes, and Batgirl wasn’t quite finished. Even though I don’t agree with the deletion, it’s not like they could be forced to put more money into a project they didn’t believe in.

But this film is completely finished. They literally just have to release it.

Why not allow or maybe even force things like this in favor of destruction for tax write off purposes? I mean I know its probably because the way these specific tax codes are written, but what would the downside be if the law was changed to accommodate allowing works to be in the public domain? The company would still realize zero profits while the public would benefit from the tax write off too.

I just think if they get the write off for it they should also lose the entirety of it’s copyrights to public domain and be required to submit all content and materials involved in the write off to the library of congress.
