Thanks, and I appreciate everyone’s input! I wanted to give hexbear a chance because I didn’t want to shut out another perspective and find myself in an eco chamber (like my Reddit feed was), and I’ve already started to see things that help me understand concepts and have made me think about myself critically.

My instance doesn't defederate as a general rule. It has its upsides and downsides -- I still have dbzer0 and lemmygrad, but I also have to put up with occasional bullshit from exploding heads and similar. Gotta say it's nice having you folks pop up in my feed to balance out the bad takes.
See, I didn't know that and randomly picked sdf.org when some of the other instances were having tech issues and growing pains. It quickly became my "primary" account and in all this drama I've learned that I was very lucky in my pick. I definitely appreciate the viewpoints I see from hexbear users.

New user not really contributing atm, but I found my way here from exploring lemmy and hearing all the controveries.
What I've enjoyed the most so far is seeing my preconceptions of internet leftism challenged and corrected. I checked out cth and genzedong back before reddit banned both and always thought it was simply full of antagonistic lefties who just wanted to troll libs. Honestly, it put a bad taste in my mouth and made me sad about the state of the left.
Being around here for a few days has shown me how absolutely wonderful everyone is as well as how deep conversations can go when yall have your own space free from constant lib attack. It's easy to see how I attributed the antagonism wrong and that it was simply defense against lib brigades. In hindsight, wish I would have just dug a little deeper back then and be partying with y'all since.
I've already learned so much lurking and look forward to learning more and interacting with all you beautiful people.

Been lurking for a few months but this is first online space I haven't gotten those fucked vibes from
I'm still getting through my list of theory so I don't feel confident joining certain conversations yet but I'd like to think being open-minded to deprogramming all the western propaganda bullshit I've ingested over a lifetime has helped me discover this community
I wish hexbear had gone with the name lib.rehab, because finding this place has done so many wonders for getting the worms out of my brain
Don't feel like you can't join conversations because you don't have all the theory down comrade. We've all got plenty gaps in our knowledge and people are pretty cool about explaining things if required.
Sometimes the best discussions are kept going and reach greater depths because someone asks an 'obvious' question or contributes a 'basic' point, too. The simple shift in perspective can help everyone to see things from a different angle, which is hard to do even if it's the crux of diamat. And we all learn when a question or contribution prompts an even more knowledgeable comrade to swing by with more theory, etc.
I just got here from Lemm.ee - I was watching the defederation drama unfold and just kept thinking 'dang, these comrades are based as fuck, I joined the wrong instance!'

Little corollary: this is not to be used as a "let me post a wall of text and call you names then say 'disengage' and call the mods on you if you reply" tool. You have to actually disengage. Learning how to do that is good.
I am but a new lil' guy. I've bounced around on beehaw (jumped that libship posthaste), lemmy.ml and lemm.ee for a couple of months now to see what feels right and wanted to check out the hexbear. Good so far, lemmy.ml was a bit too techy for my liking and soooo inundated with users. Lemmy.ml and lemm.ee were also too lib for me. I just gotta subscribe to some other non political communities to even my experience out and I think I'd like to call this instance home 🥺
Really want to thank a lot of the users who have put so much time, energy and thoughtfulness into answering some pretty basic questions about communism. It's been rad to lurk and learn and just observe how chill and friendly the vibe has been. Also stoked for emojis
