Damn. I haven't heard this one in uni but I had a professor who was casually peddling Spengler and some other sus figures.
They literally think the Russian brainpan is incapable of comprehending democracy due to them assimilating Mongolo-Asiatic authoritarianism genes in the time they were under Mongol rule so probably, yeah.
coming soon to /r/landlords: As a Catholic landowner, how can I legally check that my tenants are not engaging in homosexual activities on my property?
This reminds me of a particularly cursed enshittification dream I had where I was in a bar restroom and the soap dispenser was blocked unless you downloaded their app and created an account.
It takes an industrial grade alloy of smugness and lack of self awareness to proclaim yourself a herbivore when your society is built on brutal conquest and the immiseration of billions. This continent's century of humiliation can't come soon enough.
I am waging protracted people's war against installing apps and creating accounts in order to do things that shouldn't require a fucking app or account. I have used my browser's console to scroll wepbages with JavaScript when shitty sites would disable scrolling to force me to sign up. Death to enshittification.
I am from one of the former Eastern Bloc states. My parents, who were born in the 60s and experienced both literally said at a family meeting a few months ago that that they came to the conclusion that overthrowing the socialist governments in the East was a mistake and they had fallen for the mirage of cheap consumer goods while throwing away the achievements of their socialist governments that they had taken for granted. State provided employment and housing are major things they mentioned as definite positives from that era. And among other people their age or older, this is not in any way a rare perspective. If anything, the loudest victims of communism tend to be born 1990+.
Can't believe the West is repeating the WW2 propaganda nonsense similar to what the Nazis used
The mainstream Western perception of WW2 on Eastern Front is essentially distilled Nazi propaganda that was consciously pushed once WW2 slid into the Cold War, and the Soviets became the designated enemy. Every time the Eastern Front came up in casual conversation I would hear the smugest takes like "How the Russians won? Oh, they just waited for winter to save them and got lucky", "Russians can't fight, they just zerg rush and overwhelm you with bodies", "They were saved by Lend-Lease so basically America won the Eastern Front". When people grow up on a twisted fanfictionization of history where the Red Army was huge incompetent mass of untrained Asiatic conscripts who have to share one rifle between two people and only won because the Germans ran out of bullets to shoot at the horde and were eventually overwhelmed, they will believe all the bullshit "Superior British tanks will epically own Putin's orcs" articles and parrot them. Goebbles is laughing from the depths of hell.
The fact that they would rather believe this community is on a several years long маскировка op merely pretending to be leftist rather than engage in a minimal effort at self-reflection is mind-boggling. I understand that we are dealing with the most propagandized population to have ever walked the Earth, but it's still stunning to actually encounter the phenomenon in real time instead of just reading up on the abstract concept.
I live in one of the deeply unserious European countries where double genocide is essentially our mainstream WW2 narrative. I was an adult when I found out that I've been literally taught a nazi distortion of the Holocaust in middle school and high school. I had to do my own research to realize the scope of my country's participation in the Holocaust, which was relegated to footnotes in history textbooks and glossed over by my teachers. You can bet that the Ribbentop-Molotov pact was repeatedly hammered into us as this vile alliance between equally evil empires, though.
I beg any liberals who might be reading this thread in genuine good faith: read the article linked further up and do your best to at least consider the perspective it presents.
You are taking pride in the thought of fighting to the death against your own interests while parroting a line that was making fun of the sentiment you are expressing.
