This is for India in case anyone was wondering. It’s in a “World” sub and the headline doesn’t state the county either.

what's that? ik it is universal basic income but don't know what it actually means

[-] zcd@lemmy.ca 9 points 11 months ago

It means get rid of the ultra rich, and you can establish a baseline of income / stability for everyone. Its an extremely small group of people who couldn’t exist without the 99% being poor / working our asses off no matter how much productivity and technology has advanced

Everyone gets a set amount, like $10k.

$10k helps people only making $35k annually a lot more than people making $500k, and those people making $500k are paying a lot more in taxes.

It’s wealth redistribution and it will need to happen as automation begins to impact the middle-class a lot more.

Or the upper class spend that money on building bigger walls.

If there was a country ripe for a revolution, this would be it.

Americans: "Only 40%? Those are rookie numbers..."

[-] jimbolauski@lemm.ee 2 points 11 months ago

These numbers are a little misleading. Debt is included, the bottom 20% have negative wealth. A person in the 21 percentile has more wealth that the bottom 45% combined.

What percentage of the nation's guillotines are owned and operated by the rich?
