The only thing I'll miss is that gag they always do on SNL Weekend Update where they show a picture of him smiling and say something like: "Mitch McConnell, shown here watching an orphanage burn down..."

He was evil, he was a hypocrite, he was many things, but he was quite effective.

The timing is curious, particularly with Republicans likely to regain the Senate majority in the next Congress. But he has been openly working with Schumer on things, and it probably drives Trump nuts. He probably figures that if Trump wins, he doesn't want to have to kiss up to him again.
Timing? .... the guy's about to die because his body is starting to decompose.
The biggest problem that American politicians have at this point is a finite lifespan.
