The only thing I'll miss is that gag they always do on SNL Weekend Update where they show a picture of him smiling and say something like: "Mitch McConnell, shown here watching an orphanage burn down..."

Gets me every time.

“I love the Senate,” he said. “It has been my life. There may be more distinguished members of this body throughout our history, but I doubt there are any with more admiration for it.”

The blatant shamelessness is on-brand.

Well it has been his life, he has been there for 40 years

[-] samus12345@lemmy.world 10 points 2 years ago

And he has such admiration for it that he's spent those 40 years systematically destroying the principles on which it was founded.

We wish he didn't do anything.

[-] Reverendender@sh.itjust.works 17 points 2 years ago

He prevented things from being done

[-] candybrie@lemmy.world 7 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

He is a huge reason for the state of the courts. Which has done an unfortunate amount.

[-] Reverendender@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 years ago

He prevented Merrick Garland from being considered

[-] Tja@programming.dev 3 points 2 years ago

He was evil, he was a hypocrite, he was many things, but he was quite effective.

[-] bradorsomething@ttrpg.network 13 points 2 years ago

He will have to float out of the chamber, because walking would require him to let a motion reach the floor.

[-] HurlingDurling@lemmy.world 11 points 2 years ago

Not soon enough

[-] freedumb@programming.dev 10 points 2 years ago

[-] GlitzyArmrest@lemmy.world 7 points 2 years ago

To be clear, he'll still be in the senate, but at least he'll have less power.

[-] Everythingispenguins@lemmy.world 6 points 2 years ago

The turtle people are calling him back home.

[-] UserMeNever@feddit.nl 5 points 2 years ago

rats... something... something....

[-] bstix@feddit.dk 5 points 2 years ago

The corpse won't stay upright for that long.

The timing is curious, particularly with Republicans likely to regain the Senate majority in the next Congress. But he has been openly working with Schumer on things, and it probably drives Trump nuts. He probably figures that if Trump wins, he doesn't want to have to kiss up to him again.

Timing? .... the guy's about to die because his body is starting to decompose.

The biggest problem that American politicians have at this point is a finite lifespan.

[-] Zahille7@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

I think you mean setback

[-] Semi-Hemi-Demigod@kbin.social 1 points 2 years ago

Good news! The ultra wealthy are investing heavily in life extension research so soon they'll have an infinite lifespan.

[-] ChaoticEntropy@feddit.uk 4 points 2 years ago

What fresh bastard will replace him.

[-] Froyn@kbin.social 3 points 2 years ago

He's going to endorse a replacement Mack McCornell, spoiler alert, it's George Santos

[-] mctoasterson@reddthat.com 3 points 2 years ago

Good ol' Cocaine Mitch

[-] OldWoodFrame@lemm.ee 3 points 2 years ago

“I still have enough gas in the tank to thoroughly disappoint my critics and I intend to do so with all the enthusiasm which they have become accustomed.”

Haha. He's a horrible guy with terrible policies but even he can be funny sometimes. Good to think about every once in a while. Apparently Trump is charismatic one-on-one too. There's a reason these people are successful politicians.

[-] Blackout@kbin.social 1 points 2 years ago

He's destroyed everything that was on his list and now has earned a long rest in hell. What a guy
