Season One was Book 1, and there were only three Books, so this headline is just saying Netflix plans to finish the series. Why is it phrased like its being cancelled?
It's a pretty common expectation at this point for a Netflix show to be cancelled after its first or second season despite performing well. They also combined storylines from books 2 and 3 into episodes for the first season. Personally I didn't think it would be more than two seasons.
I wish Netflix would get the rights and produce new seasons of the animated series.
Absolutely not. I have no trust in Netflix producers to not ruin anything they touch. The live action wasn't as bad as the movie adaptation, but they neutered pretty much everything that made the original series great.
The original creators of the show are still making Avatar content. I believe they have an animated movie coming out next year?
Anyway, they left the production of the Netflix series. I doubt they would hand over the rights to let Netflix create their own canon.

Didn't know that.
According to this article. https://www.polygon.com/24075133/avatar-last-airbender-animated-sequel-creators-netflix-live-action
The new Avatar will actually be an animated, theatrically released film series, and will be a direct sequel to Nickelodeon’s Avatar: The Last Airbender. The films will follow Aang, Sokka, Katara, and the rest of Avatar gang as they move through the adult world, filling in the gaps of what happened between The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra.
While we don’t know many details about this movie trilogy just yet, we do know the first installment is set for release on Oct. 10, 2025.
Nice to see Nickelodeon investing in the series.
It'll be great to have more stories from that universe, but why that storyline? There just isn't a way to make it compelling. We already know that all of the characters live until old age and the only one who dies is Aang, but not because of any conflicts.
At best they will be able to do a coming of (adult) age drama, but coming of age stories were already well covered by both of the series.
In a universe that has literally hundreds of super heroes, most of which have legends attached to them, why not tell some of those stories?
Kinda the exact same issue with all of the star wars content right now. Why do we need an ashoka, bobba fett, Obi-Wan TV show. I think it's a symptom of milking a franchise/being afraid or unable to expand in other directions.
Nice to see Nickelodeon investing in the series.
Only took them 20 years
Makes sense considering there was no Season 4 in the original.
