Is it okay to play Dwarf Fortress with a 3D visualizer? Or does that break some sort of commandment or something?

I didn't know this was a thing and now I gotta try Dwarf Fortress again. The steam release made it almost accessible to me and this will really help.

i don't think it is, though afaik the game hasn't been translated on account of how complex it is

nah, this isn't the same. dwarf fortress is a complex enough game when you understand the language, i imagine gnome fortress is much the same. playing it without being fluent is likely to end without you doing anything or having any fun
like, the interface isn't even in elvish, that's tough
